Re: WTB: Parts for Indigo 2, Indy and Octane

I think I have a dual 250mhz R10K module, but I'm in Canada. It's not too big, so shipping shouldn't be crazy. Do you want me to go take a look?

Re: Lot of SGI in Toronto

Paged successfully! Hmm, very tempting. I already own most of the items listed, but a few are quite interesting. What are the specs of the Octane2, and the Indigo2s? Presumably the purple ones are IMPACT, but are any of them R8000s or R10000s? Also, is the Indy an R5000? When you say 21", do yo...

Re: SGI Crimson...in Lego

I have contemplated making minis of the big SGIs. My 3D printer is in theory big enough, but the print time and bed adhesion/warping factors make it too complex right now for anything but a one-off. Maybe if I get a better printer.

Re: Your most prized hardware

For me, it would be my Onyx and Origin2000, as well as maybe my R12K 400mhz O2s (though those are maybe more common). Interesting CRAY modules. Apparently there are some hobbyist CRAY systems in storage or in barns, but most of them can't run because of power requirements IIRC.

Re: SGI Crimson...in Lego

There are plenty of good pictures of Crimsons and Crimson-like cases out there. I'm sure proportions could come from one of those.

Re: your latest purchase

My dad used to own an Agenda, back when he ran Slackware for his day-to-day work. IIRC he ended up not using it when he got a Palm Treo 180 (I think?). He's gone back to Windows 10 and macOS now.

Re: [CraigList] Indigo2 Purple and VW320 local Los Angeles.

Digital calipers, mouse, and the numpad. Nothing fancy, just cautious measurement and manual entry. Comes out one heck of a lot better than anything 3D scanned (especially if you happen to like straight lines and 90 degree angles remaining as they are).

Re: What kind of camera

I tried to use Jaleo once. It seemed interesting, but I couldn't figure out how to do the most basic of things with it. Gave up after a few hours of looking for docs.

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

My O2 can do nice, fast 854x480 video in mplayer with MPEG2 and -vo sgi, but I don't think this works on an Octane without TRAM. I will try it out sometime soon on one of mine.

I have some Indigo2 sleds. I could try to 3D printer clone them, if that interests you.

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

I think that there may be some systems that will outlive others. Left in a vacuum, the cheap, abundant, beginner friendly, reliable systems of today, like the Octane or Indigo2 would probably outlive the expensive, rare, hard to operate, and hard to keep going systems like the Onyx or perhaps even t...

Re: Broken IO6-G bought on eBay

Replacing those parts, if you can get the components, shouldn't be too hard if you have a hot air soldering station. I would remove the damaged components, clean the area with isopropyl alcohol, wick the solder off, and reapply new components and paste. The parts don't look crazy small, so it should...

Re: Remote X color problems

Nothing particularly difficult. The Mini Indigo is running DietPi v158 (a minimal Debian ARM variant), though I don't imagine you would have compatibility issues with other UNIXes (X11 is pretty universal, barring extensions like GLX or RANDR). On the Mini Indigo, I run export DISPLAY=192.168.0.33:0...
