Re: What kind of camera

I tried to use Jaleo once. It seemed interesting, but I couldn't figure out how to do the most basic of things with it. Gave up after a few hours of looking for docs.

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

My O2 can do nice, fast 854x480 video in mplayer with MPEG2 and -vo sgi, but I don't think this works on an Octane without TRAM. I will try it out sometime soon on one of mine.

I have some Indigo2 sleds. I could try to 3D printer clone them, if that interests you.

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

I think that there may be some systems that will outlive others. Left in a vacuum, the cheap, abundant, beginner friendly, reliable systems of today, like the Octane or Indigo2 would probably outlive the expensive, rare, hard to operate, and hard to keep going systems like the Onyx or perhaps even t...

Re: Broken IO6-G bought on eBay

Replacing those parts, if you can get the components, shouldn't be too hard if you have a hot air soldering station. I would remove the damaged components, clean the area with isopropyl alcohol, wick the solder off, and reapply new components and paste. The parts don't look crazy small, so it should...

Re: Remote X color problems

Nothing particularly difficult. The Mini Indigo is running DietPi v158 (a minimal Debian ARM variant), though I don't imagine you would have compatibility issues with other UNIXes (X11 is pretty universal, barring extensions like GLX or RANDR). On the Mini Indigo, I run export DISPLAY=192.168.0.33:0...

Remote X color problems

Hi Nekochan! I'm currently trying to make my SGI O2 display a Firefox running on a remote GNU/Linux machine (a Mini Indigo, actually). So far, the remote X seems to be working fine. I can run Xterm: 2017-11-18 17.01.06.jpg As you can see, the Xterm here is running on the remote box, and displaying o...

Re: How can we encourage better group participation on this site?

I like iFixit. Very useful for smartphone repair guides, etc. I used your Onyx guide when I took apart mine for transport. Very helpful! Also, worth noting: if anyone wants to post my SGI History series, I would suggest linking to my Complete History of SiliconGraphics . As was the plan from the beg...

Hey, reddit's not half bad. When you have one dude posting 100% of the posts on a dead sub in the last 6 months, at a rate of multiple per day, that's when you've got a problem.

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

I have kicked off NSA/CIA/FBI off my laptop :p Compiled and flashed git version of Coreboot (after days of research (I had to start from scratch), getting configs right, borrowing some stuff from libreboot, etc) I have just flashed Libreboot to a T400, and filmed the entire process. Video coming so...

SGI SIlicon Graphics Incorporated SIlicon Graphics Incorporated Graphics There's yer problem. In all seriousness, SGIs do have decent sound quality, but I suspect they were too expensive for hobbyists and not really designed for pro audio work (nobody needs OpenGL pipelines for their 1990s-era audio...

The Octane also sounds pretty good. Not sure what hardware's in there, but it's great. I often use mine to play music when I'm working downstairs.

I might keep around the rackable bits if I mirror it. Rackable is cool too.

Re: Archiving ftp.sgi.com

Currently running an LFTP scan to see how big it is now. Will get back to you.

Apparently it's 71GB. Not bad. Will look into mirroring that myself.
