Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

Hmm, pointing devices. One of these days I should get my 3D Space Mouse going. Anyone know what IRIX software it works with?

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

Good posts, probably among the best insights into SGI's internal history out there. That seems relatively uncommon, though I suppose it's going to be more obscure than internal history for any company. In fact, these posts are so detailed I have considered doing an SGI History "Part 3 and a hal...

Many (I would even dare say most) SGI logos are available on the Nekochan FTP server as vector graphic EPS files. These are very useful for things like your silkscreen plans or the Mini Indigo.

Support call cost variable, depends on how much I have to pay my teacher to let me take a call in class :) . Probably the only time calling at a weird hours is CHEAPER. In all seriousness, while I do not plan to offer telephone support, one-on-one questions via email or forum are welcome once the pr...

Origin2000: 8x 250MHz, 5GB RAM

Running the Origin2000 today (just set up an Xvnc server, hope to have an IO6G so that the SI graphics I installed work soon). I should be able to get a video on my channel about this system out soon-ish, though it does require some strange special considerations given that I can't film it on my nor...

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

I think so, if it would show the traces well. Not sure how hi-res Xray gear you are talking about. I don't know how clearly traces show up on xray (as in, how does their ability to block the radiation compare to that of the fiberglass PCB), or how you would separate the board layers so that you coul...

Looks like it has space for an LCD monitor too? Very cool bag, not really for me at that price given that I don't actually transport my SGIs that much, but a neat bit of history nonetheless.

Re: Mini-PC fit in an SGI hard drive bay?

The D1 is the evolution of this idea. It was originally planned to use an XU4S, but in order to simplify the design and fit better within the PCI form factor, some design changes have been made. The D1 has a USB port, so WiFi on your SGI is software from there on in. The D1 is designed to be an open...

"dig up" is a bit of an overstatement, really. You can just punch "nekonoko, sort ascending" into the search and it returns this.

Re: your latest purchase

IIRC VoidLinux runs on just about anything, and is extremely lightweight, if you wanted to try that. Failing that, I have gotten good results (as in, daily usability) all the way back to a Pentium III using Puppy Linux Slacko.

Audio is just music. The D1 does have an onboard computer, but it is not a PC.

Re: Introducing D1

Is it a PC that runs on PCi card so you can rdesk into and run modern browsers? It is not a PC (not even x86) and does not use rdesk. what kinda price range are we looking at ? I don't want to talk about exact prices at this stage of development. That decision will be made when we are working with ...
