Re: Fuel CPU Disabled

env says all vontages are fine. With PIMM removed, it still says CPU disabled, but when the L1 boots it says "Unknown PSC" and complains that the PIMM's power monitoring components are not present. Nothing on the first serial port, but then again I wouldn't expect a CPU that isn't running ...

Re: Fuel CPU Disabled

cpu or cpu e gives me "command not supported on this brick type". I tried reseating the PIMM, same problem.

Fuel CPU Disabled

Just got the graphics board for my Fuel, and am now trying to get it up and running. I can't get it to boot, and the L1 seems to say why. The "leds" command outputs the following:

Code: Select all

CPU A: < CPU disabled >

How do I re-enable the CPU? Should I reseat the PIMM?

Released this a few days ago on my channel. It's not all SGIs, and quite messy, but this is a tour of my "lab"/computer room.

Probably would not have caught it if I had not kept seeing (and eventually noticing was wrong) this totally licensed™ sticker on eBay.

Re: SGI Power Supply Tester (and other projects)

Looks great! PS and minor nitpick: The SGI logo on the load board is upside down. The line between the bottom two thirds goes all the way to the center, while the line between the top two sixths stops at the top thirds bottom line. Here's what it should look like (hasty GIMP work, I know): sgiboard_...

Raptor Engineering announces TALOS II

https://www.raptorcs.com/TALOSII/prerel ... p?target=1

No price yet. I suspect it will be high, but they say "competitive pricing" so maybe it will at least be cheaper than the original one.

Re: Some more SGI history with a Canadian slant

May eventually release an SGI History Part 3.5 about the stuff discussed in the John McCrea articles. Was partially written ages ago, but I have yet to finish it.

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

320 is cool looking, but nothing beats the Prism desktop in terms of appearance. Maybe I'm weird by liking the look of an Itanium SGI more than the older ones, but the Prism is IMO the most SGI-looking SGI product ever designed, perhaps barring the Indy.

Hope your tattoo artist is better at drawing it than I am.

Always get confused about which lines should be visible, and where the gaps go.

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

Though it may have existed far after SGI's heyday, the Origin/Onyx3900 (unfortunately, I own neither of these) combined a truly modular brick-based design we haven't really seen elsewhere even since with the low heat output of the R16000 in order to fit 16 processors and 32GB of RAM into a single br...

The O2 is very small, limiting SBC choice, but (at risk of Osborne-effecting myself) I did choose quarter scale to make the O2 possible in theory.

Re: Fuel prototype (BLUE!)

Needs badges :D ! NextGenStage`.png Positioning is imperfect, I blame GIMP because Pixelmator doesn't like to do perspective. I knew those exactly 1920x1080 slides of every SGI I used in my History series weren't a waste of disk space! Except the Altix XE slide. That one's really only good for makin...

Well, how could you talk about SGI getting Bo Ewald without mentioning the company that came with him :) .

Re: With my SGI History Series complete, I have compiled all episodes for back-to-back viewing. Enjoy!

Actually what I didn't know until today, even having watched these vids individually, was that the 540 workstation intel machines were capable of being a quad cpu setup. That's pretty serious hardware for the time. Ian tells of an experiment in which a 540 was outfitted with specially designed, lar...
