Re: My first Octane

Hmm... picture? I would consider dremeling the top and then removing it with a flathead, but you may damage the plastic "handle" around the screw.

Re: WTB : SGI compliant female 13W3 to male VGA cable (short length OK)

I don't have an adapter to sell you, but holy crap, a 100ft 13w3 cable??? Was it intended for having an Onyx rack in a server room and monitor at a desk or something? Were the keyboard and mouse also extended to that length? I didn't know such a thing even existed.

That would be R4000 architecture, not the R3000 he says he's having problems with.

What about an O2 under the bed and a projector onto the ceiling :D ? You could use one of those pocket size wireless keyboard+trackpad combos designed for home theaters.

Re: How frequently you use your SGI (in 2017)?

My Origin2000 and Onyx are in my bedroom, under my desk. Right now the Fuel is also in there, in one of my "roughly ATX sized" tower piles. Then there's the bedside O2: 2017-09-06 22.47.04.jpg 2017-09-06 22.48.05.jpg I usually keep a good array of computer stuff next to my bed (the dock fo...

Re: Dubious Tezro on ebay (certainly not mine!)

Fun fact: during the the filming of Jurassic Park, the Crimson was having 30 pictures of it taken every second, causing it to often warp into a PowerSeries. Because of this limitation, "it's a UNIX system" is thought to be the most expensive to shoot scene in the entire film.

Re: Dubious Tezro on ebay (certainly not mine!)

Ahh, I hate when my computer turns into a different computer halfway through taking pictures of it! Either that, or the computer is actually a chain of multiple SGI products moving through 4D space, and the Tezro moved out of our plane before the third picture could be taken. If an Indycam cable com...

praetor, you're also welcome to render on my Origin2000 if you ever have a bigger job. It's not even turned on most of the time, so I don't mind. You'll just have to tell me how to use softimage enough to render :) .

Re: YAY! My twins are starting to look twinly.

Yeah, the front cover is one of the first pieces that has to come off, so I would be surprised if you tossed it with the drive. More likely would be throwing away the grey cover that goes over the front of the bare drive inside the system, since it looks a little like it could be part of the drive w...

Re: YAY! My twins are starting to look twinly.

Too much glue? Happened to me once. Fun fact: this is the same drive as was in the Origin2000, and I fixed my O2K's as well. If you can't find a faceplate, I could send you the drive with the O2K faceplate. It isn't the same, but I think it would fit and it's much simpler. Ian probably has one though.

Re: YAY! My twins are starting to look twinly.

I have quite a few O2 CDROMs that won't eject, and I know how to fix them (done it three times now), but I don't think I have any spare skins CD-ROM front covers (in fact, only one of my O2s has a completely intact one). Ian has some in stock, you could ask him how much he would charge you for one a...

Re: VNC to Origin2000

That appears to be on. It appears that the Origin is expecting itself to have graphics, which, being an Origin, it doesn't.

Managed to turn that on using chkconfig, now it says "X: /usr/gfx/gfxinit not found".

Re: VNC to Origin2000

I think I installed it normally, so I presume X is there. Do I have to start it somehow? Sorry for being so clueless, I really just have no experience with headless IRIX.
