Re: POWER6 Linux and AIX

That's a phpBB "feature," a PM stays in your outbox until the recipient reads it, the idea being that you can edit the message up to that point. And while it's still in your outbox you know the recipient hasn't read it yet. Not sure what happens if a recipient reads a message while the se...

@astouffer: Are you getting my PMs? I think they are getting stuck in my outbox.

Re: The Problem with Apple

Everything local. I don't trust anyone else my stuff. At the moment, I still use Apple's and Google's e-mail, but the rest is my own stuff, own calendar server, own storage, contacts sync only locally and there's a full replica at my grandpa's place done through IPSec tunnel. Soon I hope to start ho...

Fresh video on the topic.
Very long, but I recommend every second of it. I watched it yesterday.

Re: POWER6 Linux and AIX

Excellent! I'm happy it works. =)
You can enable the multiboot support in the SMS menu, and it should ask from which hard drive you want to boot every time you turn the machine on.

Ignore my PM about the yaboot file, I wrote it before reading your post here.

Re: your latest purchase

So I received yesterday from a gentleman from Finland a SideWinder Force Feedback 2 (Red - whatever that means) joystick, in good condition and with box. I should have got the Logitech WingMan one for broader compatibility (including force feedback on Mac and Linux), but the Force Feedback 2 was the...

Re: POWER6 Linux and AIX

Posting your yaboot.conf here would be better. At the moment, I'm not running Linux on my Power5. One hard drive has AIX 7.1 and the other AIX 5.3. A third hard drive has just arrived for me, but I didn't have the chance to pick it up at the post office. I'll install it over the weekend and share w...

Re: POWER6 Linux and AIX

Just a quick note for anyone else with this hardware, Debian 7 ppc installs fine. I run Debian on my Power5. It was a pain to get it booting however. After months trying to sort things out, I found out that the installer was reading the wrong devalias from the OpenFirmware (or the OpenFirmware was ...

Re: an easy way to remotely execute x86 apps as they were local

My plan for the G5 is to case-mod it to accommodate one internally (with internal power and self-contained networking), likely connected over VNC or something and using the G5 to proxy its network connections, since the G5 is probably less likely to be attacked ;) Can't you get one of the PCIe USB ...

Re: Project Update Thread: Miniature Indigos

I was planning to get a Raspberry Pi thing to move one of my haproxy boxes from virtual machine to physical (need to reboot the VM host now and then and it's a pain to redirect everything before and after reboot), I think I'll get yours, it looks cute. =)

Re: an easy way to remotely execute x86 apps as they were local

Tell me more about it. Costs? How fast? Where Can I buy one? Here in the Czech Republic any respectable computer hardware chain will have them in stock for prompt delivery. The cheaper ones go for ~115 euro and the most expensive ~350-400. They differ in CPU, RAM and storage. There are many reviews...

Re: Quick Apache question for X-Plane

I forwarded the tip to some folks at the X-Plane forum. To get this working they were using an hex editor to edit the executables to change where the program looks for the weather data (it is hard-coded). Windows folks can't do this, because then anti-hackzors protection won't let you run the file a...

Re: Quick Apache question for X-Plane

I would sort of expect something like: ProxyRequests On ProxyPass /pub http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data ProxyPassReverse /pub http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data Without any need to use mod_rewrite. This did the trick: ProxyRequests On ProxyPass /pub http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/ ProxyPassReverse /pub http:/...

Quick Apache question for X-Plane

Hey guys, So I'm now flying the X-Plane 9 on my Quad G5 and enjoying it enormously. However, the live weather feature stopped working because the URL for the service changed: From http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/data/observations/metar/cycles/whatever.txt To http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/m...
