Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly

Hamei, there's more... It will happily take a 12Hz and a 48Hz input and sync each half of the screen at a different rate, whilst outputting 41 or 48 Hz. I've tried that. =) Also it will do one half of the screen scaled and the other half unscaled if required. The scaler in indeed brilliant. Dependin...

Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly

It is, it is, but I have what may be a better suggestion ? Take that one apart since it's already badly broken, document the process, and figure out what the backlight is ? And how to get in there and replace one ? That would be a service to all the T221 owners around. But if you want to sell the e...

Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly

Guys, "happy end"! The seller stopped replying completely, and eBay refunded me completely, including shipping, and I don't need to ship the screen back. I think the new one I ordered from Canada is already waiting for me at customs. @hamei: I remember you mentioned your screen is a bit di...

Re: info about PowerMacs

Low End Mac has facebook groups. I'm not on facebook so I don't know how they go.
The e-mail lists were very nice. Now they are mostly silent but seldom you see a message or two.
If you write, usually there's an answer.

Re: Adaptec 2100s? (SCSI)

When I last looked at this, the Adaptec cards for Macs had different name (PowerDomain), and different firmware.
You could re-flash them as far as I remember.

There used to be Mac equivalent of most Adaptec cards.

Staring at the screen trying to find motivation to work. =)

Re: What Apple hardware do we have?

I've got a: - Intel Core 2 Duo iMac 17-inch with crappy GMA 950 graphics. It's my recording computer at the garage I have with my friends. A literal GarageBand. - Mac Pro 1,1, currently with my friend for Logic 9 work. - My machine for serious work, the G5 Quad. - A mid-2011 Mac Mini with AMD graphi...

Re: Apple to stop using Intel processors in Macs, reports say

At this point, I don't care that much, but it would be lovely to see some serious investment in non x86/amd64 end-user facing workstations and laptops.

Neat!

I'm going to work on this once I'm back from abroad.

I want the multiple DVI functionality. =)

Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly

Thanks guys for making me smile. I'll look for another one. I should easily get the money back from eBay, given that I also filmed unboxing. The box was very poorly handled. It was hit so many times it was completely soft when I got it. Possibly (as it has happened to me on eBay), they will refund m...

Would be interesting to compare these to results for your machines. 7z and OpenSSL 1.1.x would be available from Homebrew.

Challenge accepted.
I wonder how much of that is software optimization vs. architecture differences.

Re: Efficiency - PowerPC G4 vs. G5

Power consumption when off doesn't give any readings on my meter: 0W. The G4 uses 8W connected to mains.
I never leave it on standby, so I don't know.

I use mine 3-4 hours per day.

IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly

Guys, I'm sad. I had scored this beautiful T221, 2x dual link DVI, overclocked to 55Hz, looked gorgeous on the pictures. It would be backup for my current one. I'm literally in tears. Badly wrapped in bubble wrap, box totally soft, was for sure thrown around like a toy, with the power supply hitting...
