Re: your latest purchase

MacBook Pro late 2012 with high-DPI display.
I wouldn't buy such new computer, but it's a gift for my brother. It looks brand new, but needs a new SSD (and some cleaning).

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

All of this for a simple framebuffer with ZERO 2D acceleration! Zero means NO DRI/DRM at all! I have experimented a lot so many troubles with GPU under linux that I wouldn't recommend it, as well I am a bit ... puzzled with your idea of putting an heavy app under Qemu. That's how we drive progress,...

Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

Hello folks, As some of you may know, I'm running some experiments on my G5 Quad (PCI SSDs, H264 hardware decoder experiment planned, etc). After the system is all maxed out, I plan to add the cherry on top of the cake and have a high-DPI cool looking desktop environment. For OS X, I will use Quartz...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

That will be a problem then... Since that won't drive 2 1440p displays and my Cintiq 18SX, along on with storing multiple 4K textures and motion blur while rendering out animations since Cycles (and inherently Cycles 4D) doesn't have an OoC architecture for GPU rendering (which I really it had)! :l...

Re: If you must use Windows 10 and default apps is driving you crazy...

Could you create a scheduled task (with admin rights) to keep re-applying the change every minute perhaps? I think I can create a scheduled task using powershell logged in through the remote support tool. I'll try and report back. In the meantime, I submitted a request to commission a Linux VM so I...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

With the help of QEMU, I should be able to have a more recent version of Cinema 4D running on the box, which means I can run the Cycles 4D renderer. Ideally I would like to slap in a graphics card that can run the renderer in the GPU mode (I recon it would be faster then if it was going through the...

The official suggestion from IT Security Management is to open a powerpoint presentation, start a slide slow, run whatever I need to run and lock my screen. You should post that up to his LinkedIn and see if his "colleagues" agree. The worst thing is that I found out the bad way (trying t...

Re: Your Most Unbreakable Records in Sports History

I've had my bad luck with a bike-geek. It's not the most beautiful woman in the universe by any means, but she turns me into a machine of irrationality and randomness (one of the reasons I do home office is to not meet her), and yes, I put a huge effort in getting in shape to impress her. Then I sta...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

So he has... I've also found a listing for a mini 6-pin to 6-pin adapter that is (apparently) comparable with the later generation G5s, so I might be able to put something like a FirePro W7000 in it... I would go with ATi here (normally would choose NVIDIA) because of the open-source drivers... Has...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

This annoys me because there are a few good options there, but even a Quad PowerPC G5 system can't go higher then a Quadro 4500FX/GF7800GTX, It just puts any potential options into an unglammering light... :( /  I think Luigi Burdo (check him out on YouTube) has managed to use newer cards on h...
