Re: [Not Mine] Indigo2 Impact R4400 on dutch marktplaats.nl

That's a really neat job!

I really wonder why they never produced Dallas chips with replaceable batteries? (pure commercialism I suppose)

Thanks for sharing, as we'll all have to carry out this mod someday.

Re: New Tezro owner

Nice one! You can tell if it has two or four CPU’s by the number of heat sinks present underneath the metal shroud covering the CPU’s. The board number should be found just below the top RAM Bank, under the top most VRM, if you google this number, you can find out what type of CPU’s the machine has....

Re: Onyx 2 IR3 Resolution Issue with 2 RM's installed

Yeah I think this is right - the GE EEPROM stores the board configuration along with the default vfo and will use this when it matches, otherwise default to something sensible. This certainly explains the problems we both had. It doesn't matter, the Yeah I think this is right - the GE EEPROM stores...

Re: Onyx 2 IR3 Resolution Issue with 2 RM's installed

Hi Jeb, I was unfortunately not able to dump the GE EEPROM, as I was unable to properly access the graphics system when I went in via serial. The system told me that the graphics pipeline appeared to be managed, but was unresponsive. I do however know that it was trying to output a resolution of: 219...

Re: Onyx 2 IR3 Resolution Issue with 2 RM's installed

OK!!! I managed to fix the problem by going into IRIX with one raster manager installed and typing the command: “/use/gfx/sermon 1280x1024_60” The machine then asked me if I wanted this setting to be the new power on default? I said yes, it made the adjustment and I powered the machine down. I then ...

Re: Onyx 2 IR3 Resolution Issue with 2 RM's installed

I have managed to take a look at my Onyx2 and I am still having problems! Here’s a screenshot of the consol when the system has one raster manager fitted: (take notice of the graphical information regarding screen resolution etc) 7F8F60B2-7EA3-4BAE-BF07-4255EB14835A.jpeg Here’s a screenshot of the c...

Wow, that is a thing of beauty! Where did you find one in such pristine condition? The thing's gotta be darn near 20 years old by now. I've never seen one In Real Life but it looks like this information might be accurate: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html_single...

Would you like some Java with that JavaStation?

I have managed to get my hands on a JavaStation, but I will have to gent my hands on at least one more of these systems to be able to get one up and running. For now, it will just have to act as a nice desk top ornament! does anyone here have any experience with one of these systems? IMG_2664.jpg IM...

Re: Sunfire v880 with XVR-4000

Your v880 even has those bottom side panels!.. often those are missing and just show shiny metal. QEMU runs on Solaris/SPARC.. if you wanted to run some Intel-based OSs. A more modern firefox and OpenOffice than what IRIX has. This system will be very usable even in a modern sense. I have some V480...

I agree with you completely, but he must accept the fact that we all have SGI machines for different reasons and that all of our opinions are valid as a result. It's not nice to simply attack someone you don't know, simply because their opinion is different to yours! I will openly admit that hardwar...

Yes. An opinion formed by owning and using every one of these machines on a daily basis since some time around 1995, rather than something I pulled out of my ass. Exactly.

Re: Best workstation to start with?

All of these machines are pretty useless by todays standards, but that's not the point is it! That's exactly what I mean. If you don't know what you are talking about, you shouldn't be giving advice. Some of us actually use these computers and have real-world experience with them. The O2 is crap. W...
