Re: 320 Visual Workstation dual 1GHz, 512MB

Have you overclocked it? Because CPU-Z shows 116 MHz FSB and 1160 CPU Clock. It does appear to be overclocked a little, but this was not intentional. It does however run stable with these clocks. Here is some more information on the system: IMG_2370.JPG Here's a picture of the system's internals. I...

Re: What Apple hardware do we have?

Yeah that is a water cooled quad. Ive had a few G5 Macs... They're good for space heating but not much else. No I don't think so, look at the PCI-X slots, the 11,2 type G5 Power Macs have PCI Express. This is most likely one of the first G5 Power Macs (type 7,2 or 7,3 from 2004). I agree, it was so...

Re: Your most prized hardware

When moving forward, it’s always important to know where you’ve come from.

Computers are no different, someone has to keep a good record of things, and I’m happy to be one of those doing it.

Re: How to measure time?

The kind of person who would buy a watch with a mechanical movement would never settle for a cheap smart watch, so there is absolutely no reason for a company such as TAG to go this way. As smart watches should not have any effect on such a market. Garmin on the other hand makes very good navigation...

I bought the system from Ian Mapleson with the two CPU's installed, but without the VRM which I bought from a guy in Germany. (as Ian was all out of VRM's)

Re: your latest purchase

Rather have more than I need then less, IMHO. Agreed, it's important to future-proof your system. (doing it wisely though) For instance, people always seem to talk about CPU's and RAM but the piece of hardware which usually lets most systems down the most is the HDD. (the slowest piece of hardware ...

Re: your latest purchase

As the Z230 is eventually destined to run Xen and will have both Windows 8.1 Embedded and NetBSD as guest domains, and its duties include a wide variety of tasks that require a lot of RAM I'm going to eventually max it out as I maxed out the W530 and used that RAM often If your system can make use ...

Re: your latest purchase

You only need as much RAM as a system actually uses, any more is simply a waste of money! (no benefit at all) There is nothing worse than looking at unused system resources that you've paid good money for! (Having 24GB of ram in a system that only uses 8GB max, for example, the extra 16GB is simply ...

It looks rather interesting, however it's sad to see Swiss watchmakers such as TAG going the smart watch route, not nearly the same feel as a mechanical movement IMHO.

Re: Onyx2 quad R14K 500MHz, IR3, 1GB

Lekker, but how can you have such a boring name for the system?! It deserves something better than IRIS. (Is that a RC glider fuselage in your passage?) It is indeed an RC glider (4 meter wing span). I have it hanging from the ceiling for decorative purposes. My dad is into RC flying (slo...

Your most prized hardware

In my case, my most prized hardware consists of my collection of modules from the original 3 Cray machines. Cray1: This Cray1 memory module is rather rare, as it has the white Fairchild chips on it. IMG_2889.JPG IMG_2890.JPG Cray2 : This is apparently a 10MB memory module from a Cray2 system: IMG_28...
