Re: TEZRO WANTED please

The Onyx2 is ridiculous when it runs in fastfan mode! (Still a rather low-pitch noise, but loud) It would be difficult to use the machine for anything productive, while sitting in the same room, with it running in fastfan mode. It's a very cool machine though and it's built like a tank. (It's a &quo...

Re: TEZRO WANTED please

Not quiet but very tolerable. A somewhat mechanical humming noise, for as long as it doesn't go into 'fastfan' mode at least. It would probably shred anything that accidentally fell in. Including your fingers  I wonder why SGI moved away from centrifugal blowers such as this in their large ma...

Re: TEZRO WANTED please

I gotcha. I guess I just expected it to be the other way around. The Onyx2 makes use of 9 fairly large fans situated in a fan-tray, and the standard (non-quad 1GHz) Tezro has 9 fans inside it of varying sizes, if you include the fan inside the power supply. (This creates a high pitch noise.) IMG_28...

Re: TEZRO WANTED please

The Tezro has a high pitch fan noise, which can be quite annoying. The Onyx2 although also loud, has a lower pitch fan noise, which isn't as irritating.

Why are you specifically looking for the R5K variant?

Re: Things to buy....

Yeah, HP also make one, as do NEC. Problem is that they're very expensive, and 2560x1600 is only pretty average by today's standards. It's good that a few professional 16:10 screens are still made, I just wish someone would do a 30" 16:10 4k screen... I know this is absolutely retarded, but yo...

Re: Things to buy....

Simple, because I use my PC for an awful lot more than watching films. In fact if I want to watch a film, I'd rather watch it on the big TV in the living room (I have a Raspberry PI set up for video streaming to the TV). And if I do watch any TV/film on my PC, a tiny black bar at the top and bottom...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

I find putting PC-systems together quite boring these days as there is not much of choice for the parts anymore. Everything is more or less the same from just the couple manufacturers, and instead of building something you are really just assembling existing parts together. The problem that we sit ...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

I agree with you that most games today are complete garbage. I am into only into extremely well produced games which have a story line. If it doesn’t have a story line, then I’m not interested. (Good RPG’s and FPS’s). Notable games for me since 2006 were: Fear 1&2 (3 was garbage) The dark messia...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

I understand what you are saying, but for many gamers, including myself, the hobby of gaming also includes the interest in building up the hardware associated with gaming. This may seem crazy, but it's reality. You just have to note the amount of views that YouTube channels such as "Linus Tech ...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

As far as home users are concerned, the only applications that truly need extreme compute and graphics performance in the present tense are games, and lets face it, games are still limited by hardware performance. (Not enough of it) DirectX is a bitch, as it kind of ties gamers to X86 machines runni...

All of Apple’s “A” processors found in iPhone’s and iPad’s are in fact ARM processors, from what I understand.

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

Intel has the niche market for now, but quantum machines are on the rise and it doesn't look like intel is doing as much research in this field as they need to. Wait until there is a breakthrough in this field, allowing quantum machines to operate at room temperature. When this happens, silicon will...
