Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

So since this discussion has seemingly ended, here is what I've discovered: generally it seems I should go with a DLP projector when I upgrade my entertainment setup a year from now... So here is what I'm gonna do - when it is time for me to pick a projector, I'll look for a Cine 6 or Cine 7 CRT pro...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

After getting some help measuring the width of a bigger screen... I can confirm that I can actually fit a 60" projection quite easily and without my initial worries I had about getting such a size! ^^

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

The benefit over CRT is that they really can last longer than a DLP though if you're not planning to play any video games and just looking for a cheap, 'just working' solution you're better off with a DLP. I've never been one for a "just working" package  ... In terms what I plan to ...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

I have a spare Barco CRT projector as it happens, but it is large and heavy - 1.1m in Length and ~85Kg. It is capable of 2500x2000 though. PM me if you are interested. Jeb Thanks for the offer, man! Unfortunately the plan for the retrofit of my entertainment setup is still in the early stages of pl...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

I just read in your OP you are looking to project on a 40" screen... I'm sorry, but unless you enjoy tinkering with old projectors as a hobby this is ridiculous. (of course, it can be a fine hobby, tho I expect finding replacement tubes may be a problem) You can get a decent cheap TV in that s...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

Projectors have a specified throw distance, You will need to find out the throw distance required before you can use it in a confined space. I'm not sure this is relevant but I found some sort of formula for a "correct screen position" in the Cine 6's installation manual which must have s...

CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

Hello all, I'm planning a retrofit on my entertainment setup for my bedroom (more like a studio with a bed strapped in it) and I stumbled across some CRT Projectors and here's what I've noticed about them: - They offer a better contrast ratio and colour compared to LCD and DLP projectors (Like the m...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

With the help of QEMU, I should be able to have a more recent version of Cinema 4D running on the box, which means I can run the Cycles 4D renderer. Ideally I would like to slap in a graphics card that can run the renderer in the GPU mode (I recon it would be faster then if it was going through the...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

So he has... I've also found a listing for a mini 6-pin to 6-pin adapter that is (apparently) comparable with the later generation G5s, so I might be able to put something like a FirePro W7000 in it... I would go with ATi here (normally would choose NVIDIA) because of the open-source drivers... Has...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

This annoys me because there are a few good options there, but even a Quad PowerPC G5 system can't go higher then a Quadro 4500FX/GF7800GTX, It just puts any potential options into an unglammering light... :( /  I think Luigi Burdo (check him out on YouTube) has managed to use newer cards on h...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

Yeah, you can get anything that isn't the Ultra 45 (which scalpers have latched onto for being The Fastest SPARC Workstation) for a pretty reasonable price. I really ought to do more with my Blade 2000, but it seems like most of the open-source Solaris ports are business/server-oriented stuff. I no...
