Re: O2 R10K 250Mhz CPU

Pics? Conditions? Accessories?

EDIT: your post is ambiguous. Are you selling an O2 with an R10000 CPU at 250 MHz, or are you selling the CPU only?

Re: Can you identify this machine?

Interesting. I've seen some benchmarks and compared them with those of an Amiga 3000, which was used for VR in Virtuality machines. The numbers (Professional Iris = 6.220 MIPS, Amiga 3000 = 8 MIPS) seem coherent with the same kind of flat shaded, textureless graphics the Virtuality systems displayed...

Can you identify this machine?

It's in a computer museum (together with the Octane I mentioned in my Mekton thread, which I haven't been able to try yet). The owner of the museum calls it "an SGI system used for VR". I haven't been able to photograph the back because there are scaffolds and piles of boxes behind it. Who...

Re: Which machines are compatible with Mekton?

Okay, I may have found an Octane machine with the right configuration to run Mekton, but I don't know yet what exactly is in its hard drive. In case there's no Mekton installed, can it be downloaded from somewhere?

Re: Which machines are compatible with Certain Impact demos?

No. Certain Impact is a specific demo, it is a WW1 flight "simulation". You fly a biplane, while trying to bomb the train and dogfighting other aircraft. Then I apologize for the misunderstanding. I'm not interested in that game; I'm interested in this game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Which machines are compatible with Certain Impact demos?

Certain Impact is just one demo Isn't it a collection of demos, of which Mekton is one? Ian's documentation explains that Certain Impact will work on vPro Ian's web site is huge, where is that documentation? Don't even try with a Solid Impact that has no TRAM module on it, it won't work. What are S...

Did it work on Vpro machines right out of the box, or did anything need to be reconfigured in some way, like some said in the thread I linked in my previous post?

Which machines are compatible with Mekton?

Last year I made some posts about running various software in stereoscopy on an SGI machine. Well, nothing came of it, because I realized I would be doing something that can be done much more easily on a PC. I figured that, if I get an SGI machine, I might as well get one that runs software a PC can...

Re: Searching 3D Models of our beloved ones

Hooray for necroposting! :-D I'm reviving this thread because I made several models of SGI workstations that I placed together as a VRML world. Here it is: http://devilmaster.altervista.org/sgi/sgimodels.html Please note that the resolution of the rear textures isn't as high as I would've liked: the...

Re: Headless desktop: what's the performance loss?

Oh, I see. So what would the lag be? Would it be feasible, for example, to use a headless desktop configuration to run graphical demos?

Headless desktop: what's the performance loss?

I was browsing the wiki and I found the article about running SGI machines in headless desktop mode. The first thought I had was: "Wow, that's a really convenient way to avoid locating a compatible monitor!" The second thought I had was: "Hold on, if data about what should be on the S...

Re: SGI startup/shutdown sounds and lack of quality

I've noticed that the Indy start sound has a lower pitch in your new recording, while in the Octane start sound, the pitch is now higher. Which recording has the correct pitch?

SGI startup/shutdown sounds and lack of quality

I've noticed that many of the startup/shutdown sounds that can be downloaded from the Nekochan FTP suffer from low bitrate, low sampling frequency and lots of background hisses. Are there higher quality versions available anywhere? If there are, where are they? If there aren't, I've managed to incre...

Re: Octane Channel Option: information request

The manual is in error, you definitely have to use a 2@ to activate the OCO board, see here. I see. So, if a program supports stereoscopy, will it automatically be displayed correctly (one view per display) if I use that command? Also, you don't have to use the wayback machine to look at their page...

Re: Octane Channel Option: information request

The setmon commands you list are not multichannel modes! You would use "setmon -S 2@640x480_q" or something like that. These mode files must be present in your /usr/gfx/... in order to work. Support is built into the normal Impact/MXI/etc drivers. I got those commands from the manual. If ...
