GCC-4.8.0 porting to Alpha-OSF and Mozilla/Firefox

Well the title basically says it all. I need to know how much interest there is in Firefox builds later than 3.0. If I am to attempt the build I will need to update GCC to 4.80. Gcc stills support the ALPHA they just dropped off the configuration files for OSF...five required files and thirty option...

Re: FireFox 3.0.19 Upgraded! Builds for ev5(21164) now 2.5 times faster

I use the EV56 version on my EV7 (es47) for testing purposes and I don't see that much difference in performance from the EV6 . I will probably only be releasing only EV56 versions in later builds of Firefox... Firefox 3.5 uses a lot more memory than 3.0 so If I get it going (a big if) I will probab...

FireFox 3.0.19 Upgraded! Builds for ev5(21164) now 2.5 times faster

Well the topic says it all! I just figured out why the speed between ev4 and ev6 were so different. It wasn't from the extra instructions but how the order the instructions were emitted to fill the larger cache memory of ev5,ev56,ev6 and ev7 architectures. I created two new builds: one for ev5 and l...

Re: Firefox 3.0.19 Tru64 finally finished !

Well this post is only for those curious on how I built FireFox 3.0 since it was originally released when Tru64 was still a supported product. Well it was never released since firefox2 was the last release you could build with Compaq's c++ compiler. What is needed to build it is GCC4.7.4, a replacem...

Re: Firefox 3.0.19 Tru64 finally finished !

I just noticed I didn't mention is after downloading and gunziping everything you need to change to root cd to / then use gtar to properly install the two directory's "/usr/opt/FSF and /usr/opt/ff3". You should also do a "chown -R root:system /usr/opt/ff3" although firefox will r...

Firefox 3.0.19 Tru64 finally finished !

Well this took a lot longer to make the necessary source code changes and build new tools to finish the build. I am currently seeding the torrent now. I have a "big pipe" to push the bits to the world so start downloading and seeding now. This is first new web browser announcement for Tru6...

Re: FireFox 3.0 building blues, new software requests

I actually considered Oolite and it looks like it shouldn't be too difficult to do a port. I will have to download the Windows version first to see if I like it. Right now I am trying to get qt4 and webkit working OK to build the browser QTweb since I was running into too many compiler issues to get...

Re: Digital Unix Alpha Software Product Library - download now!

Well I just did a quick test to see if I put my foot in my mouth based on my previous post! I used a windows 10 tar/gzip program to extract the three iso images, shell script and read.me file. I mounted disk 1 and extracted the directory dfa520 (the fortran compiler). I tarred it up and ftp it to the...

Re: Digital Unix Alpha Software Product Library - download now!

No need to a get a cdr recorder! I built the iso images with Joliet and Rock Ridge support so the images can be directly mounted by a Windows 10 machine. Simply using readily available software you can tar and gzip a directory of interest to you and the ftp the result to your tru64 machine.

Digital Unix Alpha Software Product Library - download now!

I have the full January 1999 Digital Unix Software Product Library (three cd's). This basically was all the Digital branded software you could purchase from Dec in 1999. I just created a torrent so anyone can download the stuff. I also included a script to generate and install hobbyist licenses for ...

Re: looking for C++ compiler version 6.5 or 7.1

I got some friendly advise on how to use mkisofs in tru64 unix to create Iso images. I just created a torrent so anyone can download the stuff. I also included a script to generate and install hobbyist licenses for everything in the entire Digital Tru64 software library and OSF associated product di...
