Re: Backburner rendering farm.

It's Burn you're after, not Backburner. Burn only runs on IRIX (or in its case, past tense) and Linux platforms, where the latter was far more common and popular. Burn wasn't deemed ideal, because I remember people regularly complained about differences and artifacts in render output, because actual...

Re: Problem installing IRIX on my Tezro

Why don't you try installing IRIX 6.5.22? A popular release, very stable and bloat-free (relatively speaking, of course), which also works on many older systems, and it was made freely available for download at SGI Supportfolio at some point. You should be able to find it archived across the internet.

Re: O350-IR4 Editing System Restored to Functional Condition

Very nice setup and interesting pictures! Reminds me of my Tezro Flame & Smoke setup. What kind of disk performance are you getting? I remember I eventually switched to SAS with SSDs (during the last moments when I owned/used that setup). Also, is the heat dissipation and are the sound levels be...

My apologies for my delayed response. Please take a look at the link in the bottom of my signature (i.e. this one, then take a look at the referenced off-site overview, here).

Re: WTB: high-end CRT monitors

Would a broadcast monitor satisfy your needs and desires, too? I have one (albeit smaller than 19", but capable of both square and wide aspect resolutions, including 1080 HD) of JVC with many types of inputs.

Re: What kind of camera

Using an iPhone is arguably ‘cheating’, too... or definitely less authentic, if that's the aim. To be fully authentic, you must acquire hardware that's simply too costly and big, not to mention fairly hard to come by used (or, again, affordably). Your best bet would be to procure a second-hand camco...

Re: What kind of camera

The editing capabilities of Spark/Effect/Flint, Flame and Inferno are limited compared to Smoke and Fire, needless to say, but you can definitely edit. In earlier versions editing is done on the Desktop and in the Play modules and in later versions of Flame and Fire you can also do more advanced edi...

Re: What kind of camera

You can do editing in Flame, too, probably better than under Première (considering its limitations, including the way it was ported to UNIX platforms at the time). Then there's also the impressive SGO Jaleo, but that doesn't really run too smoothly on an O2, even on one with maximum specifications. ...

This is an old thread (and that's an understatement), but the document in question is hard to find now and still quite useful.

Please let me know if I should share it, whoever might (still) be interested in it.

rumble, that would indeed be interesting.

I've never tried pkgsrc for IRIX. What is the current situation? (Where can I possibly read more about it?)

Re: SALE: SGI Tezro 4x1Ghz / Lucid / VBOB / DmediaPro / Betacam Recorder / Wacom / Monitor + More! (EUROPE)

IIRC the DCD became unavailable at some point, and Discreet changed their setup to include an external DVI splitter box. It's in the IFFS setup manuals. Now I also remember having read about it, in later Flame and Smoke manuals (possibly around the “2007” releases). The workaround was peculiar, but...

Re: SALE: SGI Tezro 4x1Ghz / Lucid / VBOB / DmediaPro / Betacam Recorder / Wacom / Monitor + More! (EUROPE)

It does not come with a DCD. The system was originally used by NBC in the US. Unusual, especially for broadcast usage. Unless it was used for (e.g.) motion graphics and long-form editing... but still strange, considering the total cost, to have a DCD or not wouldn't seem like terribly much of a cos...

Re: [UK] DEC/Compaq/HP ATI 7500 PCI Graphics Card

Quite rare indeed and for this price very irresistible to some, I can imagine. These were, until fairly recently even (by various resellers), offered for around a thousand euros/dollars. Total insanity. I had one of these ‘original’ cards (which came with a DS15) and also some ‘generic’ ones, but I ...
