Re: Food

Tofu is very versatile, and has kind of a bad rap. It doesn't have much flavour on its own, admittedly, and this certainly is a light tasting dish, but the texture of fried spiced dry tofu is far more better than the stuff you get in the water blocks at the grocery store - I hate working with that s...

Re: Interesting read: A-EON Amiga X500 review from Ars

Similarly, another thing I forgot to point out is that the P50xx lacks AltiVec. The G5's VMX implementation isn't too flash compared to the 7450 G4 (it's basically the old 7400 G4 AltiVec design that IBM bolted on), but it's got it, at least. I'm harping on its performance mostly because if I bough...

Re: Interesting read: A-EON Amiga X500 review from Ars

Yes, but a G5 is much more noisy, power hungry and potentially has poorer longterm reliability, especially the water cooled models - the pump isn't going to last forever and last I checked they stopped making replacements. Of course, you prefer to use MacOS, so this wouldn't even be an option. But I...

I don't care as much for Roger Moore but many of the Bond movies he started in are classics. He will be missed.

Re: Food

It's been hot recently so cold noodle dishes are the bulk of my current eating. This is cold soba with fried spiced tofu and a Sichuan vinaigrette. Recipe is pretty simple. Get some soba, boil it for 4 mins in unsalted water, drain and rinse in ice cold water. For the tofu you need to use spiced or ...

Re: Multilink LED orange or green but never works

Probably a case of capacitor failure inside of the board. Open it up and see if there's any leakage.

Re: Java

You mean 21st century. And yeah, currently we don't have any Java past 1.4, which was released in 2002. If you want to try your hand at compiling a later version of OpenJDK, I'd start with OpenJDK 6, the earliest OpenJDK release that's still supported, here's the info for it. http://openjdk.java.net...

Re: 3D Print Octane front door?

Ah very cool. I'm not a 3D printer myself so I'm not going to be able to do much with it but this is pretty awesome. I'll archuve this and put it aside until I've got the time and money to have a prototype door made, eventually it may be possible to replace doors on Octanes that have lost their doors.

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

I personally think when it comes down to it that Nehalem and up are still quite usable but below that is at best questionable in it's usability for x86, I do have a P4 era box but it has a Pentium M, so it at least consumes a reasonable amount of power.

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

I put Windows 10 on a NetBurst machine tonight. Masochist. I'd rather use a PIII to a Netburst machine any day simply because the latter at least consumes power in accordance with it's performance. A Netburst just sucks power and will sit there crunching it for longer than necessary. A G4S at 1.5GH...
