Re: Best BSD Laptop Guide

I got a good deal on a CPU that costs around $500 usually so I jumped on it.

Re: Turning your back on windows

I wasn't referring to Gentoo specifically when I said burying potential issues. I was more referring to the consensus of morons at Redhat. Sorry for being unclear haha.

Re: Turning your back on windows

I know paging doesn't work here Kumba. I was just hoping you'd encounter it eventually :p. I was hoping you may be able to offer insight into Gentoo-hardened vs something like Qubes or comment on the Linux policy of burying broken shit under less-broke shit (ALSA being unable to handle multiple soun...

Re: The Problem with Apple

I had a few 1084S monitors in my Amiga days, I also had a monochrome amber monitor and my uncle has a Solbourne with that orange plasma display. I want it. So bad. But he wants to give it to my cousin - not a big deal since my cousin would probably give it to me as he doesn't appreciate stuff like t...

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Hardened_Gentoo

I don't want to have to regurgitate Gentoo Hardened specs, so sorry for the link drop.

I got your point, Dodoid. I was just saying, systemd isn't offering any Linux distro running it any pluses for security.

Re: The Problem with Apple

The largest reasonable laptop SSD is 2TB. The largest reasonable laptop HDD is 3 or 4 TB. Stop peddling this shit that SSDs are tiny and useless. My MBP has 1TB ssd, I'm sure apple will offer a larger one in the future. Yes, they are more expensive than HDD. Yes, you can just buy a $80 chromebook i...

Re: Turning your back on windows

Certainly sounds problematic, but do you believe it is enough of an issue that Qubes use of systemd makes it less secure (even with virtualization and all the security stuff) than something like Devuan? Of course, no code is perfect, but I would think Qubes still has the advantage, even with system...

Re: Turning your back on windows

So, in a normal init process for BSD init you have ~2000 lines of code. In the systemd core code, main.c alone has 2300 lines. That doesn't include the full PID 1. So we already know from the headers, functions and everything imported that you're dealing with code a magnitude bigger and with a magni...

Re: Turning your back on windows

Dodoid, let me explain the systemd architecture so you can understand why it's vulnerable: Systemd's PID 1 consists of two pieces, essentially - systemd-init and systemd-supervisor. systemd-init is essentially the role of sys v or bsd init, where as systemd-supervisor acts as an interface to cgroups...

Re: Free: SGI 20" CRT Trinitron Monitor GDM-20E21 - New York

CRTs are great if they're have good quality tubes. in this case I suspect a worn out tube was the cause of it being dim, you can up the intensity of the beam but that just burns it out faster. I have plans to eventually get a CRT projector and I have a few PVMs and small monitors left. I try to pick...
