Re: Acquired Indigo2 IMPACT, My first (working) SGI+Questions
The 250MHz R4400 is the best CPU available for the Indigo2 apart from the R10k options of course (and unless anyone wants to pimp the R8k here...) For scratches on the case incidentally, you can try T-cut for these (test on an inconspicuous one first). My own Indigo2 was bought from Ian on here. He ...

Re: Octane in UK
Heh, I was the opposite. Only console I've ever owned is a Wii, and my dad had an old Atari 2600 when I was growing up. Went mainly from BBC Micro games to DOS games when we got our first PC (386DX 33 with 8MB of RAM I recall).

Re: Octane in UK
I used to have an old K6/2 PC kicking around as my retro gaming machine. Normally ran Windows 98 for a couple of games I had which didn't play nice with Windows XP+, and could be easily booted into DOS for even older games as well (those that could still cope OK with a 500MHz CPU). To be honest, the...

Re: Octane in UK
I can confirm that O2s can be quiet. When you put a Noctua fan in however, the HDD often becomes the loudest part, so investing in a more modern and quiet HDD is a wise investment. With careful fanning, my Fuel is also pretty quiet as well - much quieter than my Indigo2. However the Fuel has a gazil...

Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly
Not to beat up on 'newer' or nuttin but ... can you point out a newer display that displays everything from 640x480 to 3840x2400 without a hiccup ? Yes, they practically all can. Actually, they can't. Please show me all these other 3840x2400 screens out there. I think you'll find almost all are 384...

8MB of RAM isn't great, but 1,000GHz? Wow!

Ian sells the 128MB kits for £75, so it'd be £150 to buy 4 64MB sticks from him. As he's in the UK, postage should be cheap.

Re: Reviveing old mobiles?
Although for some time I'm using an iPhone 4, I 've no intention to upgrade to a newer model. Contrariwise, occasionaly I'm fed up with it. So, I'm contemplating to fall back to my much older Nokia E71. Of course, I'll lose quite a few apps - but, to be honest, most of them I haven't used too often...

I would also add Beneath a Steel Sky to the lists above.

Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly
Would you have any suggestions on what I should inspect to ensure that it is safe to power it on? I could keep it for parts. In short, you need to remove the casing (it might be possible to glue it back together with superglue or ideally poly cement, although marks will obviously be visible), then ...

Wow, that is sad. 4k 16:10 screens are a major rarity in the first place, such a shame to see such a rare monitor trashed due to shit packaging

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?
Just finished installing three more double sockets in the garage, and raised the two that were already in there up the wall a bit. The existing sockets were both at the back (this is a double garage) and were mounted right up against the fitted work bench there - which meant nasty bent cables every ...

Re: Announcing IRIX.pw
But then, if the SGI community ever used their SGI computers, they would already know that. Thing is, browsing the web natively on an SGI has become increasingly difficult for a while now - HTTPS or not. I seem to recall your own preferred method is to RDP to a browser on a Windows box for that (an...

Re: The Problem with Apple
The "thinness madness" (which results in the application of crappy keyboards) that Apple is going through at the moment is simply due to the fact that the average person on Earth seems to have the same obsession and this is a marketing strategy that they need to follow in-order to survive...

Re: Problem installing IRIX on my Tezro
I use Dina these days for IRIX installation. Runs nicely as a VM from my main PC, and as it already has the necessary shares etc. set up, it's a doddle to use.
