Re: Who can identify this serial adapter?

Yeah, that looks like some kind of breakout box for a laptop or something. Though I don't think I've seen one with Mac and PC serial ports on the same dongle before, interesting.

Re: is something going wrong with the movie industry?

The reason movie scripts suck is because they're either cobbled together by "writers" who are little more than glorified secretaries attempting to turn piles of boardroom notes from producer meetings into a functional screenplay, or they're written by somebody who might have some vague clu...

Simple: we don't drive them. They get sold to the junkyard for scrap value or sit on blocks in somebody's back pasture for a few decades until they disintegrate.

Re: your latest purchase

I've never checked, but I'd assume so. It's definitely got the vertical aperture grille.

I remember this from back when it was announced, but there's not much new information there that I can see. Do they have a target spec in mind?

No better display device for the NES/SNES down on the bottom shelf there or the Laserdisc player & VCR up top!

Re: your latest purchase

sxbass.jpg Well, the new bass got here on Thursday, whereupon I discovered that the distributor apparently hadn't checked that the neck relief was correct since it left the factory in China god-knows-when, and the strings were the cheapest thing they could truthfully claim was a name brand. Fortuna...

Re: your latest purchase

Man, I need to fix my Sega CD (I think a fuse blew in it.) Lots of strange, interesting stuff for that system, especially for fans of early-'90s anime aesthetics (and early-'90s anime dubbing!) Keio Flying Squadron alone is worth the price of admission.

Re: your latest purchase

Interesting! I only found out about them when I got that 5-string Jazz Bass clone off of Craigslist, but I've been genuinely amazed by how nice an instrument it is considering they sell for $150-250 depending on the model. I went down to a pawn shop this afternoon just to satisfy my curiousity by tr...

Re: your latest purchase

I just plunked down for an SX Andromeda II from Rondo Music. It's basically the 4-string deluxe version (single-piece neck, high-mass bridge, better tuners) of their Jazz Bass clone I already own. I've found that to be a majorly sweet instrument, but after some serious consideration I find that the ...

Yeah, but archive.org's crawlers respect robots.txt, so the packages never got archived.

Re: Putting the C8000 to good use?

It's one thing to drop support as far as updates go, but actually removing access to older builds for older systems is just obscene, especially since it's blocked from being mirrored on archive.org.

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

Yeah, you can get anything that isn't the Ultra 45 (which scalpers have latched onto for being The Fastest SPARC Workstation) for a pretty reasonable price. I really ought to do more with my Blade 2000, but it seems like most of the open-source Solaris ports are business/server-oriented stuff.
