Re: I've Had It With Firefox - Alternatives I'm Exploring

If they're complicit in actual criminal activity, they should be (and will be) held accountable by the law under normal due process. But part of what makes this country what it is that sympathizing with bad people isn't a crime. All of us have the right to be wrong, and the minute the government sta...

Re: I've Had It With Firefox - Alternatives I'm Exploring

Ain't nothin' illegal about having views, man. If there's evidence they're complicit in wrongdoing, then let the cops do what they do, but until then it's a free country and a free Internet.

Re: I've Had It With Firefox - Alternatives I'm Exploring

That said, Firefox is getting weird. Pocket and Firefox Accounts are ridiculous, Firefox Screenshots sends all screenshots to Mozilla servers, Yeah, this is another reason I'm not on main-line FF. The reinvention as a bad Chrome clone was bad enough, but the constant, desperate attempts to horn in ...

Seconding the Pale Moon recommendation. All the stuff that made Firefox good, none of the bullshit.

Re: Article: The Coming Software Apocalypse

I mean, if you want to bitch about the million zillion things being automated that probably shouldn't be, I'm totally on board with that. (Remember, kids: the only difference between a Tesla and a 5,000 lb. 150 mph. crowd-seeking motorized death missile is a clever hacker!) But fucksake, that is not...

Re: Article: The Coming Software Apocalypse

Yep, that is some grade-A "article about programming written by someone who knows nothing about programming" right there.

Interesting stuff! That last one reminds me of the Quake soundtrack very strongly.

Re: your latest purchase

I'd just like to know why in God's name anybody puts the Caps Lock key on these little tiny micro-keyboards. NOBODY USES CAPS LOCK. ALL IT DOES IS GET IN THE WAY. And that goes double when it's on an already-cramped keyboard, the same size as and immediately adjacent to one of the most common letter...

Oh, nifty. Reminds me, I should really pull out my RPi and screw around with RISC OS some more.

Re: your latest purchase

Only problem with abandoning *nix is that the alternatives have been getting worse and worse. Windows 8 was so awful that it finally drove me off my XP system simply by demonstrating that things would never, ever get better there; if I had to use Win10 as a daily driver I'd slit my wrists. And OSX i...

Re: your latest purchase

Why bother with laptops, as you pay so much and get so little from a hardware pint of view? Because I can't crash on the couch or lie in bed on a lazy morning with a desktop PC. And yeah, one could use a cheap, low-power laptop as a terminal connected to a more powerful computer... but that doesn't...

Re: your latest purchase

This I don't understand. Why get so angry at Lenovo, and instead just buy an (Apple/Microsoft/Huawei)? If that's your sword to fall on there are plenty of options in the screen department. I mean, I'm not married to the idea of buying ThinkPads. It's just that everywhere I look, the laptop market t...
