Floating-point is for the weak. Fixed-point integer math, now that's where it's at.

John C. Dvorak should be pleased.

Re: Have any one seen any good anime lately?

Now I see what you mean by David Lynch. I can certainly keep watching. Yup. It's funny because I only really noticed the connection when I watched Fire Walk With Me and noticed the similar fixation on power lines, and I'm still not 100% certain the other similarities are deliberate, but there's eno...

Re: Have any one seen any good anime lately?

I'd encourage you to stick with it. It starts slow, but the reveal of what's really going on and the gonzo lengths it goes to while remaining remarkably self-consistent (and the depth of background material it weaves in) are fascinating when you get towards the end and look back at everything that's...

1280x1024 is as high as anyone actually needs outside of medical imaging anyway.

Re: Car Talk

I've been surprised by how easy plain mechanical steering is to get used to. I don't miss power steering at all - and certainly not what happens when the power steering fails and you're left working up a hernia trying to horse the wheel off to one side or the other because the damn thing wasn't desi...

Re: They're coming to take me away hehe! For compiling GCC

It's probably an older version of Webkit. Nothing on Haiku stays up-to-date because they're too busy trying to add a fucking package manager/repository walled-garden system to actually work on other shit.

Re: They're coming to take me away hehe! For compiling GCC

I'm still using Firefox by way of Pale Moon , but even that can only strip out so much of the bullshit. I'd love for there to be a decent alternative browser out there - seems like all the alternatives these days are either Chrome wannabes or so bare-bones they don't include proper adblocking or JS ...

Re: Wanted: working 486 system

Yep, I've got plenty of that on hand. When I finally get around to the homebrew CPU design I've been scheming up the architecture for, I'm planning on using some to shadow the microcode ROM, since it's two or three times as fast as the fastest EEPROMs I've been able to find.

Re: Wanted: working 486 system

Well I'm good on that count as I also have several 486es and boards and now one working system (well, it POSTs A-okay, I still have to get disks set up and an OS installed,) but good for anyone else to know :)

Also, am I correct in gathering that this is a Firefox-specific extension and not a browser-independent standard? That's definitely going to make everything better forever.

Re: Interesting read: Web Assembly

It's tempting for me to think "well, if it means the end of everybody including a hundred megabytes of Javascript on every site..." But we all know that won't happen, and this'll only make things worse. And yes, browser-as-OS can go die in a fire.

Re: Wanted: working 486 system

The former. It's a patch for BIOS disk calls on systems that are too old to recognize larger disks correctly (usually 386-486 systems that only think in CHS geometry, though I've seen Pentium systems with similar issues.)

Re: Have any one seen any good anime lately?

Lain is definitely worth a go. It's like David Lynch directed a cyberpunk anime.
