Re: doomed - use! HTTPS Everywhere - google explained why

HTTPS is just an extortion racket pushed by certificate authorities.

Succumbed to a whim and picked up a nice little plumwood soprano recorder.

Re: Making music with PureData on Octane 2

I've been dying to know what synth was used for the quad damage sound effect. It has a subtle amount of noise oscillator giving it an appearance of distortion or grit. Thinking about it now, I almost wonder if it wasn't an early Roland of some description, back before they were using integrated VCF...

Re: CSS SANS

Great, another bunch of people who need to be branded with the image of J. Robert Oppenheimer on their foreheads. I give it two years before this makes it into one of the megalithic duzitall Javascript frameworks and becomes inescapable. Three and the W3C's Bandwagon Department will propose a standa...

Re: WeirdStuff Warehouse is closing Sunday April 8

Nabbed a Sun framebuffer card for the lunchbox Sparcstation I've had hanging around for a while, before they closed down the website. They mixed up the shipping address and sent out another straightaway at no charge - then the guy who ended up getting mine contacted me and offered to send it on over...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

Gwahrgh, GNOME 3, that time when self-styled Designers with their heads shoved up their asses invaded the *nix world, after Apple had already succumbed and just before the Sinofsky Cult took Microsoft for a ride on the Crazy Train. What an absolute fiasco that was. On the bright side, it got me to d...

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

Btw, where the fark did this Twitter embed thing come from? It's obnoxious. Even moreso when it doesn't work at all if you don't have twitter.com enabled in your Javascript whitelist. Though I'm torn on deciding whether I hate that it breaks some posting functionality for stupid reasons, or like th...

Re: QEMU/x86 on Loongson3

Yeah, it's downright bizarre how Loongson seems to be practically vaporware outside of China - even Chinese-based international sellers barely turn up anything.

*reads posts about laptop screens with nearly 6,000,000 pixels on 1280x800 ThinkPad he bought specifically because larger resolutions on laptops make everything unmanageably tiny*

Re: Good starter machine?

Yeah, the Blade systems are nice and straightforward, and USB support means not having to track down a Sun keyboard & mouse or PS/2-to-Sun adapter. Unless you really want to play with the older systems, that's what I'd go for.

Re: your latest purchase

Picked up a couple fun bits of wood and string recently: teleclone_275.jpg This is a Telecaster clone from SX Guitars, who make shockingly good instruments for the bargain-basement price (okay, their electronics are generic and mediocre, but everyone replaces those anyway.) I picked it up because I ...

Re: Things that make your blood boil

The whole high-res audio one annoys me too in general. Especially as the resolution of the audio makes little difference as long as music continues to be brickwalled and dynamically compressed to shit during the mastering process. High-resolution shit is still shit... Yeah, no kidding. At least it'...
