Wait, is that how it works? If I get to 5,000 posts do I get a free Crimson?

Re: Things to buy....

I would still like to get any SGI. Feels weird to be on here this long and not have one. I also still need to get a NeXT, and I wouldn't be opposed to getting a VAX and/or Itanium system as well. That way I'll have at least one machine from each of the major workstation manufacturers of the '9...

Re: your latest purchase

That uses those funky edge connector ESDI drives right? I would imagine those are hard to find.

Re: Things that make your blood boil

Cellphones. I use ublock origin, you should try it sometime. Doesn't show up in the google play store, it must be bundled with a browser? Besides, does it block in-app ad's? UBlock Origin is a Firefox extension. So if you've got Firefox's mobile version installed you can grab it off the Firefox ext...

Re: your latest purchase

I just got a 5.25" 1.2MB floppy drive to use with my Kryoflux. Smells like cigarettes, but hopefully works fine (it's guaranteed to work, so at least I'm not out anything but time if it doesn't). Oh eBay purchases, such interesting smells

Re: [de] IBM RS/6000 Model 860 Unix laptop in fully working condition

Depending on shipping costs, I'm interested in an Indigo 2 or the IRIS Indigo. I will happily send the machines over the pond, but wouldn't it be much easier to get them locally? I'm afraid that the shipping costs will kill the deal. Just checked with DHL: Shipping of the Indigo2 would cost you at ...

I remember coming on here when I was in high school(2005-ish) and reading the forums, don't think I ever got an account (if I did, I don't remember the username). Happy anniversary!

Re: your latest purchase

Super jealous! I'd love to have an A3000.

Raion-Fox wrote:They were very expensive. Total I spent about $900 on the collection.

I mean, A3000's go for like ~$600 by themselves. It's a lot of money, but not too bad all things considered.

Re: Computer with a real serial port

I use an old monochrome 486 Dell Latitude as a kind of portable serial terminal, but that's not much help to you as you want to run Linux or BSD (I run DOS 6.22/Win 3.11 on mine). I agree with Raion-Fox, an older ThinkPad would be good. Alternatively, if you have a newer laptop with an Express...

Re: your latest purchase

This is an " Altairduino ". It's an MITS Altair 8800 simulator that runs on an Arduino Due. Certainly the closest I'll get to owning an Altair any time soon, and easier to keep maintained. It's slightly smaller than a real Altair front panel, and has both USB and Serial ports. My only com...

Ah, wasn't aware you needed official support. ECC will at least work in AMD's consumer grade systems, whereas with Intel they won't.

I'm pretty sure both Ryzen and Threadripper support ECC RAM (depending on motherboard).
