Re: Eclectic Light: "We need to document macOS"

Mac OS X Internals is a great read, but it's 1) not written by Apple 2) limited to 10.4 and earlier, though this is perfectly fine with me (typing on a Tiger iMac G4). Apple only supports developers to the minimum extent software can actually get written. Even their TNs and other documentation befor...

Those aren't hard to find. Fry's carries them for around $40.

Re: PowerPC Macs - Are They Still Useful?

The vast majority of programs work in Classic; the only one I remember that benefitted from booting OS 9 was SuperCollider 2/3. Sure, they'll work, and that's why 10.4 is my preferred version of OS X on PowerPC. But OS 9 on the raw metal is a lot faster, and some apps don't work quite right in Clas...

Re: PowerPC Macs - Are They Still Useful?

You could use a 1GHz TiBook. Those will still run 9.2.2. I have an 867MHz and a 1GHz TiBook, and they're great mobile OS 9 workstations.

Indys at the Salk Institute when I interned there as an undergraduate (summer of 1996). They were ostensibly for protein visualization but they got mostly used for xdoom. :)

Re: Burnt AAUI on PM6100??

That definitely sounds like a hardware failure. It's probably just easier to find a NuBus card, though with what you've got in there, you may not have the room ;) Also, I've never run the G3 and the HPV card together with a NuBus card in a 6100. I'm not even sure that's possible. I have an "SR-...

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

The major part of the added cost was the workstation video card. The rest of it was pretty close to retail, so I just threw it all in so it can come ready to go.

Nice grab!

I've got an LX running Tru64. It's pretty neat, the only Alpha I've ever owned so far. I stuck it in a black case with custom Alpha-themed decals. :)

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

Keep in mind the workstation doesn't have RAM or a video card. You could add those separately if you like, but I'm just getting them BTO. I'm waiting for a clarification on one of the items, but the loadout I'm looking at is a bit under $7500 shipped, which is about in line with my expectations (two...
