Re: Firefox 3.0.19 Tru64 finally finished !

Grabbed it, but not at home yet, so haven't gotten a chance to try. Since I'm visiting my folks and I'm annoyed with them, I'll seed it at maximum for the next hour or so. :P

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

Heat is the enemy of any system. My Quad G5 runs throttled for this reason.

No, not yet. GA for the POWER9 should be around the end of the year and I expect the system shortly after that.

Damn. I'm going to have to give this a try on my 164LX.

If someone can give me the binary, I can host it on the Gopher server.

Re: Installing on a PA-RISC D350

The D350 is a PA-7200, IIRC, and won't boot a 64-bit version of the OS. The last version to officially support it was 11i v1 and that's probably why it wouldn't boot the later discs.

What was the failure in the installation log?

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

Backporting the new VSX acceleration in libpng to VMX/AltiVec. It actually required very few changes, mostly to deal with a couple new VSX intrinsics that AltiVec doesn't have.

Mmmm, vectors.

Very interesting. At least you found a solution that seemed acceptable. What were the RT issues with ProRes? Did AIC give you any performance improvements?

Mine has a FireGL-UX, which I'm quite sure doesn't help the power consumption any.

Re: HP9000 C8000 noise

Thanks! I own a Quad G5 and an IBM 285, and if they are quieter than these, then it's ok. I find the 285 louder, but less annoying, than the G5. It's a more constant sound, without annoying interference and overlaps. My 285 idles at around 250W-300W, depending on its mood. I've not yet measured my ...

Re: HP9000 C8000 noise

A quiet low whoosh as jpstewart reported, even my dual 1.1GHz PA-8900 setup. Makes my Quad G5 even more obnoxious by comparison. They're very well-behaved machines in that respect. The real problem with it is it draws even more juice than the Quad. I clocked it pulling almost 450W once; even OpenPA ...

Re: SCSI fuse advice (or, how to kill a ThinkPad 800 with a SCSI2SD)

From Unitrode, a division of Initrode? </officespace>

Maybe, though that particular part seems too new to be in this unit. I've seen two-pin SCSI breakers on some unrelated systems. I haven't gotten a round tuit on the SCSI2SD yet.
