Welcome! The So Cal SGI mafia are fun people. We very rarely steal Tezros from new members.

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

How about a baby Talos?

One socket, so just two PCIe slots and half the RAM slots, but half the cost or more. Still EATX, though with only a 500W PSU.

The Indy was my first SGI too (first one I ever used and wasted time with sgidoom and the IndyCam instead of doing work in college, and later the first one I ever owned). I'm fond of the Indy despite its flaws.

Re: Tadpole Viper and Linux

Solaris 10 is what I'm running on my Ultra-3, which is the Sun-rebadged Viper. That should "just work." Is there anything you've needed to do specially to get it up and running from the DVD? I was going to ask you earlier since I know yours runs 10, we're just kind-of lost when it comes t...

Read your blog post on your Talos, sounds interesting and fun. My kind of swimming up the stream with a middle finger pointing to the x86 tourists behind you!

That is, more or less, exactly what I'm doing.

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

I put them in the review link above, but tl;dr is about 13W at BMC idle and around 150W or so in use. The highest number I'm getting off my Kill-A-Watt is 212W. Yes, really. It's using less power than the G5 idling next to it. Note that the Radeon is essentially just acting as a 2D unaccelerated fra...
