@Irinikus
Are you one of them aviator types? Or is that monstrosity of levers to the right of the O2 the power switch/dsitribution board for all these things. :D

Re: What to do with a VW320?

Nice! ...but wait, no sgi branded cheap plastic charcol mouse? Nice mouse mat though, not seen that one before o.0. Sadly, no mouse. It came with a Microsoft mouse. Apparently the original owner disliked the original mouse and threw it away. understandable. Did your cardboard 'folder' in the...

Re: [not mine] Dutch lot of SGI PC's

o.0

I'm a bit rusty on my non-existent Dutch. But I think thats 5 x 320's (and 5 x 5021, one per 320 :D), and a single 330 (linux 'L' added for value).

Old 5021's too. The 5411 was 4:3 screen of choice imo ... lose the barrel distortion, it's not worth the headfu*k anymore.

Re: What to do with a VW320?

I promised pictures! ... Nice! ...but wait, no sgi branded cheap plastic charcol mouse? Nice mouse mat though, not seen that one before o.0. Did your cardboard 'folder' in the background come with a cover? I have two, but never seen the outside of them. Shame about the bug/stylised logo mismatch. I...

Re: What to do with a VW320?

I ran a lab of twelve 320s which were used for urban modelling (an app called Realax IIRC). The researchers realised it made no difference how much texture data they used, so they were able to employ higher quality imagery for their real-time models, typically 200MB+ (that was huge back in 2001). T...

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

My favourite is the :320:, followed by :O2:. The machine I always wanted (and never got) was an :Indigo2: (love the colour).

But tbh when I think SiliconGraphics superiority, and everything that made SGI. It has to be :Onyx: :Crimson:.

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

Mucho drool factor there... Good to see Viewsonic back in the game, they made some razor sharp CRT's ~Y2K. Their subsequent flatpanel displays were pretty shoddy and quite efficient at brand destruction. I've been in the market for a new display o.0. What are the mounting options? Is it made by Vie...

Re: What to do with a VW320?

You're too kind Ian... Truth be told I didn't think about that, but yes I have never used a VPro in an Octane  . Think I meant... Load the same mahoosive image up on your Octane '98/'99/'00/'01 PC, attempt to do the same thing, and watch your Octane '98/'99/'00/'01 PC cry Beg for mercy o.0 @Hu...

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

Ah I didn't realise it was that old. I might have to keep an eye out for one if they are cheap enough and it's in good condition. I was hoping it could be VESA mounted with ease, I see piccys on tinterweb suggesting other mounting options than its stock stand, but unsure if these are hack jobs. Is i...

Re: What to do with a VW320?

I like to pretend the front panel is hydraulic and make a whooshing noise everytime I open it. That only entertains me for so long, and then I turn it on. o.0 While it not impossible to convert to ATX or something similar, the PSU is not ATX and thus the mounting is off so you need to file down some...

Re: History of SiliconGraphics Part 7 is here! Final episode.

Agreed, I first heard about this years ago in a blue sky talk John Carmack gave, but now companies like Euclideon Unlimited are apparently poised on the brink of making it a reality. iirc ATi were the ones pushing ARB for the inclusion in the standard. This, coupled with the bitter taste left in th...
