Re: Gone.. tired..

..being put on an ignore list... There's an ignore list? Can we apply ourselve's to someone else's ignore list? Ah... I see the mods have already done this for us. Thanks :D The title of this thread is a status update for last night no  ? I do hope you're still around next time he comes back...

Re: A curious proposal

Why Excel for tables? Word would be sufficient no? WTF? Her university asked her to use Latek to write the final report. What the is the meaning of Excel in this? The only good point is: she can now quote a new tool in her CV's abilities! What is Latek? Do you mean LaTeX? Since mathematical symbols...

Re: A curious proposal

we are already talking about what in 80s was simple impossible: concurrency and parallelism! The CM-5 (among others) disgrees with this. Indeed they tried to invent the Transputer with its own Occam language. They failed... The transputer was invented o.0 as well as learning Latek (why not Word?) t...

Re: WTB 1600sw adapter for Sgi 320 and/or Fuel

Oh, interesting, I just saw your pictures in the other thread. You are definitely missing the header. I did not even realize the header was an option. On the other hand, you got dual CPU, 1GB RAM, and the VRM, so pretty lucky on the whole. Yep, I wonder how hard to find those headers are... Dang ne...

Re: Show Off Your Home Office Setup & SGI Collection...

^^ Awww, I missed that tablecloth  . So you took it to Denmark? ^^ I am an aviator by profession. That is an actual throttle quadrant from a Boeing 737-200. 737 eh? Isn't there an awesome 'This is the new 737, and this is the box it came in' Indigo poster? [EDIT:] Nope that would be 777. http:/...

Re: A curious proposal

C or - heaven forbid - anything else. Fixed ;) C opens the door to all the other C-like languages. Even the java virtual machine is written in C.... nuff said (imo, that makes java nothing more than a glorified scripting language, and python, that relies on java, well... ). You can learn all ...

@Irinikus
Are you one of them aviator types? Or is that monstrosity of levers to the right of the O2 the power switch/dsitribution board for all these things. :D

Re: What to do with a VW320?

Nice! ...but wait, no sgi branded cheap plastic charcol mouse? Nice mouse mat though, not seen that one before o.0. Sadly, no mouse. It came with a Microsoft mouse. Apparently the original owner disliked the original mouse and threw it away. understandable. Did your cardboard 'folder' in the...

Re: [not mine] Dutch lot of SGI PC's

o.0

I'm a bit rusty on my non-existent Dutch. But I think thats 5 x 320's (and 5 x 5021, one per 320 :D), and a single 330 (linux 'L' added for value).

Old 5021's too. The 5411 was 4:3 screen of choice imo ... lose the barrel distortion, it's not worth the headfu*k anymore.

Re: What to do with a VW320?

I promised pictures! ... Nice! ...but wait, no sgi branded cheap plastic charcol mouse? Nice mouse mat though, not seen that one before o.0. Did your cardboard 'folder' in the background come with a cover? I have two, but never seen the outside of them. Shame about the bug/stylised logo mismatch. I...

Re: What to do with a VW320?

I ran a lab of twelve 320s which were used for urban modelling (an app called Realax IIRC). The researchers realised it made no difference how much texture data they used, so they were able to employ higher quality imagery for their real-time models, typically 200MB+ (that was huge back in 2001). T...

My favourite is the :320:, followed by :O2:. The machine I always wanted (and never got) was an :Indigo2: (love the colour).

But tbh when I think SiliconGraphics superiority, and everything that made SGI. It has to be :Onyx: :Crimson:.

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

Mucho drool factor there... Good to see Viewsonic back in the game, they made some razor sharp CRT's ~Y2K. Their subsequent flatpanel displays were pretty shoddy and quite efficient at brand destruction. I've been in the market for a new display o.0. What are the mounting options? Is it made by Vie...

You're too kind Ian... Truth be told I didn't think about that, but yes I have never used a VPro in an Octane  . Think I meant... Load the same mahoosive image up on your Octane '98/'99/'00/'01 PC, attempt to do the same thing, and watch your Octane '98/'99/'00/'01 PC cry Beg for mercy o.0 @Hu...

Re: Monitor suggestions for high-DPI experiment

Ah I didn't realise it was that old. I might have to keep an eye out for one if they are cheap enough and it's in good condition. I was hoping it could be VESA mounted with ease, I see piccys on tinterweb suggesting other mounting options than its stock stand, but unsure if these are hack jobs. Is i...
