Re: Would you like some Java with that JavaStation?

The number of pins looks the same, but the layout looks different to me? I have a boxed Qube3 at home, can look through the docs later see what it says if you want. Might be some PSU diagrams?

Re: Intel backdoor: not a bug, a feature (buy a new processor!!!)

Does anyone know if a 'patched' guest OS could jump/side-channel its way into an 'un-patched' host OS's kernel space? Or even the other way around, an 'un-patched' guest OS and 'patched' host OS?

I have no idea how virtualised kernels operate wrt the host kernel space...

Re: Intel backdoor: not a bug, a feature (buy a new processor!!!)

The deeper one goes, you have to start wondering at what point Eve (as in Alice, Bob etc) stops giving a sh*t. o.0 Encryption would be the answer, but at some point the data will exist decrypted in digital form, on some medium... and this will no doubt be accessible by someone or something. So this ...

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

I love the idea of OpenPOWER being an alternative platform to x64, but I do worry it will all be dead in the water as a 'workstation' platform until there is a decent software catalog behind it. The only way it's going to win that is by undercutting x64 in the price/performance (what x86 did to MIPS...

I'm sure it was/is/will be.

Enough of this though, tell me about directly yielding Maya 2017 with a non otoy octane.

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

This all sounds very sales(wo)man-ney. Could you be more specific when you say: SGI was used in the CGI still in 2009 Who, what, when, where ....why? has high yields workflow faster yield of what? stop signs? corn? and more direct Are you confusing "Octane renderer" with Octane workstation...

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

It's quite interesting to see the negativity being expressed here, when it comes to rendering on SGI's (for nostalgia of course). I wouldn't say being negative, just being photo realistic. Since OP mentioned 'Film production'/'perfect for commercial use' this suggests actual 'work' to be done on th...

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

On a similar note, I honestly believe that somehow in 2012 the universe kinda went wonky and lost all objectivity. Coming of age of generation snowflake?... the Mayan's apocalyptic long count reset in disguise o.0. @RobhG It's the render engine thats important here, not the hardware you are renderi...

Re: A curious proposal

Does APL2 use the same glyphs as the rest of the world? Or is it still that mystical runic symbolism which invokes loki every time you attempt to write a program in it o.0 [Sorry for replying so late - was abroad for some time] Yes, APL still uses these characters - with good reasons (see Iverson, ...

Indeed, very cool, It's like what a Danish Frank LLoyd Wright would do if employed by 1920's SGI :P How hot is it in there? o.0. Maybe some 'smooth' lego tops to remove visible the trademark lego connectors running across the top surface ... or is that the point? To make it obviously lego-like. Cong...

Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

I think there is a typo in the title of this thread. 'Apple', 'Workstation' and 'Dominance' are used the same sentence. o.0 When did Apple dominate the workstation market? I must have missed that . Last time apple had dominance over x86, MIPS was in charge with the software that mattered :D ....

My Irix boxen have sadly been sat dormant for the last 4 years :(. My use for them ran out back in 2009 ish :( :(.
