Re: old computer graphics magazines?

Oooh, some good links there! Yeah, I'll have to try to get a guest account or something at the university library the next time I go, so I can actually save those PDFs. Still, I would like some actual physical magazines to hold, if anybody's got them and would like to negotiate! I'm mainly looking f...

old computer graphics magazines?

Well, this didn't seem to belong in the "hardware wanted" forum, so I'll ask here: I don't suppose anybody is sitting on a cache of old 3D graphics magazines (Computer Graphics World, etc) ? I'm specifically looking for stuff pre-2000, none of which have turned up on ebay in a really long ...

Re: A delicate request

so ... because you believe you are not capable of governing your own behavior, you want a higher authority to step in and give you a commandment to abide by? which is somehow preferable to -- or easier than -- deciding rationally to abstain from said behavior?

how ... curious :)

Re: free* Hitachi 72GB/15k harddrive (yes, there is a catch)

Ah thank you, I appreciate the information! Yeah, unfortunately I don't have a way of isolating the culprit without spending more money. Which I wouldn't mind, but I'd rather just pay to send it to somebody who can prove within seconds that the drive either works or doesn't. I won't rule out complet...

free* Hitachi 72GB/15k harddrive (yes, there is a catch)

Would somebody (in the US, please) be willing to dump the contents of this XFS-formatted drive to USB for me? It's got an 80-pin SCA connector and I don't have any way of interfacing with it. I have one of those cheap adapter things, but it doesn't work. I've read elsewhere that I need an adapter wi...

Re: 80ties CG - typical rend/raytr features compared to newe

I recently scored a LaserGraphics 8k film recorder on ebay -- should be here in a few days. I can't wait to pipe some renderings into it to get that oldschool look :) Actually the reason I bought it is to experiment with getting an authentic film look with digital photos. I am/was a film snob, and h...

Re: clarification of nekochan's commercial software policy

Fair enough. I still think it's silly -- if Home of the Underdogs has survived this long (and old DOS games are way more mainstream than anything we'd be dealing with), then it seems *entirely* unlikely that anybody would come knocking to complain.

clarification of nekochan's commercial software policy

Does Nekochan's ban against discussing trading commercial software apply to software that is 20 years old, unsupported and originally sold by a company which is no longer in existence? (ie, "abandonware") It would seem contrary to the whole spirit of preservation on which this SGI-collecto...

Re: 80ties CG - typical rend/raytr features compared to newe

Some of what you're seeing may be due to them being rendered to film (via film recorders) -- the analog response of film is very distinctive, and I personally like it very much!
