Re: SGI O2 HDD caddy (STL file needed for 3D printing)

Nice, when are you going to print full O2 case ? It might help solve the crumbling plastic problem that many of us have ;)

Flashing PROM from L1/L2/L3/whatever - without IRIX ??

I finally got the L2 software working in a VM ( thanks to this thread http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16732130&start=15#p7402817 ), and it turns I seem to have been wrong about the ability to flash PROM in Fuel on a botched motherboard. A few years ago I bricked my motherboard...

Re: Fuel CPU Disabled

Nah, that's unlikely, I've successfully run Fuel on a very crappy 400W PSU (it wasn't stable, voltages all over the place but it did run).

Re: Fuel CPU Disabled

Uh oh, I am very curious about this now, I actually broke my Fuel's PROM (it froze when flashing), my understanding is that the L3 can reflash prom even if it's broken. Do you have any information on what's required to have that L3 software running ? @Dodoid - one more thing came to mind, Fuel that ...

Re: Fuel CPU Disabled

I doubt Dodoid has an L2 emulator, I would want one for myself.

I think a best bet would be to test the PIMM in another Fuel (ideally swap PIMM's to test Dodoid's setup with a guaranteed working PIMM).

Re: Announcement - Fuel ATX PSU adapters available for purchase

Fuel is a WTX machine so in theory it might work with a wtx psu but nobody ever verified that, even if it was electrically compatible the fan signal might be an issue. My adapters require atx psu and there is definitely an atx sparkle 460 on the market - I'm sure one of the members used it with my a...

Re: Announcement - Fuel ATX PSU adapters available for purchase

This is what I have for now: ⋅ RockPower LW-6550HG ⋅ AQTIS 600W AP-600GR ⋅ Sparkle FSP460-60PFN - those numbers are for the WTX (Fuel) version, one would have to look up the ATX equivalent ⋅ NMB GM430WTXW01SSV (SGI PN SG002A430WSW) - those numbers are for the ...

Re: Announcement - Fuel ATX PSU adapters available for purchase

I've actually tested my fuel with a ~400w psu - the voltages were not stable, might have been related to quality of the psu I used.

Re: Announcement - Fuel ATX PSU adapters available for purchase

At least one the Fuel PSU's I dealt with had its microcontroller fried - that would be nearly impossible to replace.

I actually contacted NMB (Minebea) to see if they could share schematics to their PSU - to no avail...

Re: IPv6!!!!

Yep, back in Tokyo I've deliberately chosen my provider because they had native IPV6, IRIX worked flawlessly. Call me lazy but it's so much easier when I can set up all my hosts all over the world without crazy routing necessary.

Re: Whats it like living in japan?

Getting Japanese citizenship is nearly impossible - there are very few people who managed to do it. Forget it. Also - for adults Japan mandates renouncing all other citizenships, even kids who are dual citizens at the age of 20 (I think) have to declare which one to keep. Visas - with a company that...

Re: Whats it like living in japan?

I lived in Tokyo in 2006-2016, I was 26 when I was offered a 1-year internship in Tokyo, ended up getting a full-time job and almost 10 years decided it was time to move on. Japan is interesting, couple points: 1) Samurai's, Geishas and Yakuza don't walk on the streets. 2) The language is not diffic...

Re: Internals of the duel R14k CPU modules, upgrading modules by replacing CPUs

Jesus Christ. Can someone who has a clue please step in here ? It was COMMON to swap out the pre-300 mhz processors. Worked in both single and dual forms. But at 360 mhz SGI went to soldered processor chips, which are a bear to replace. Even with the O2 boards and soldering on new outta the box chi...
