Re: Whats it like living in japan?

A good friend of mine is married to a pretty japanese girl. He loves Japan, everything japanese and speaks japanese very fluently (took him 10 years to get there). He often travels over there with his wife to visit her family. He told me it would be impossible for him to live full-time in Japan beca...

Re: Interesting read: Compiling a Mac OS 8 application on Sierra

Nice article. First ever I see "Lightspeed C" mentionned somewhere ! My father taught me C in 1987 with that thing on a Mac SE. The 3D starfield splashscreen is what got me into this whole computing mess. Dammit !

Very nice !! Don't have that much money right now though. If the buyer isn't interested by the Lucid interface, I'd gladly take it off you hands. I'm in Paris too.

Re: Acquired a Fuel.

BTW, I bought a Dr Bott "SGI saver" some times ago and it works better than the MLA. No need for pin removal anymore as the thing supplies the right DDC info directly. Also, it displays the boot log better.

So sad and so true. I lost all interest in computing just after a few years working in it, about 15 years ago.

Re: Non-inkjet Color Printer Recommendations??

Success ! I printed from my Octane using Alias Studiopaint 9.5 and Photoshop. I just chose some random postscript HP model in the list from printer config and it worked right away. 8-)

Re: Non-inkjet Color Printer Recommendations??

I forgot : I paid €285 for it, which is about $300. I had to disable the antivirus (Avast) because it messed with the HP driver install. All in all, it was pretty straightforward to get it running via ethernet. there's a guy on Ebay Germany selling a full set of XXL compatible toner cartridges for a...

Re: Non-inkjet Color Printer Recommendations??

So, this WE, I bought a HP Laserjet M277DW. I briefly tested it with my windows 10 laptop yesterday night and was very pleasantly surprised with the results. Printing several big A4 photos, the results were very good ! And the thing is damn fast. About 2s for a big A4 pic. It ticks all your boxes ap...

Donated again ! Didn't catch the thing until I saw the thread today. Subsilver2 theme has the "Active Topics" link, which I'm using all the time, while prosilver theme has the donate button. I need both ! 8-)

OK so X220 in this case. Normal keyboard and trackpad. Maybe 16:9 though.

Re: SATA performance with SSDs?

Unless you hate the chicklet style keyboards, the x230 is what I have, I think the key layout is a little better, but I've only used a x220 briefly helping a friend. X230 has a backlit keyboard. At least my laptop one does. I have the tablet version I picked up cheap at a recycler and it does not. ...

Re: How do you get your SGI machines?

Hope you can get the Onyx going, Is that a deskside or a rackside Onyx2? Guessing rack because it wouldn't fit in the car? The thing lacks the MSC (or whatever it's called) because it was taken to repair another one so it was somewhat incomplete. It's the big two-meters high fridge. We dismantled i...

Re: How do you get your SGI machines?

I got my machines from a friend of mine who worked at SGI France for a long time. He still had friends over there and one day, they decided to scrap a whole lot of things. Before eveything got to the scrapyard, we got there in the parking lot with his station wagon and made a few trips to bring back...
