Re: your latest purchase

A country with two different voltages for household outlets would be quite odd. Fortunately Japan isn't so strange, it uses 100V throughout, but with two different frequencies (60 Hz in the west, 50 Hz in the east). A 16% difference in frequency is much less of a problem than 100% difference in volt...

Sure. The open toolchains for Spartan6 were made possible with the Xilinx documentation (which was quite complete for their older parts) and analysis software such as DeBit.

Re: your latest purchase

It does say "LaserKaraoke" on the side. At karaoke bars, there are lists of songs that fill whole binders. Being able to key in a song from a library of thousands was good business, I suppose. Does this unit hold full-size 30mm LaserDiscs? A lot of the karaoke discs were only 20mm.

This is skirting a bit close to the rules of the site (see the yellow notice at the top of the page), but if you have a license, it is added to the /var/flexlm/license.dat file.

Re: Installing SunOS 4.0.3c on SPARCstation IPC

The IPC was mostly just a SparcStation 1+ in a different case. The IPX was the one that shared most with the SparcStation 2.

Re: PowerPC Macs - Are They Still Useful?

Interesting! Have you tried SuperCollider 2? I think 3.4 was a total rewrite and wasn't the same codebase as 2/3.0alpha. I just remembered that another program that didn't like Classic was TC Spark. And certain graphics applications had funky display redraw issues (Illustrator, etc). It can certainl...

Re: PowerPC Macs - Are They Still Useful?

You could use a 1GHz TiBook. Those will still run 9.2.2. I have an 867MHz and a 1GHz TiBook, and they're great mobile OS 9 workstations. That's the most powerful laptop that can boot OS 9. (The best desktop capable of booting OS 9 is the G4 1.25 GHz MDD.) But all PowerPC macs can run the Classic en...

Re: Your first SGI encounter

At SIGGRAPH '94. The conference had Indys running NCSA Mosaic and KaleidoTile . The CAVE exhibit used three rackmount Onyx RE2 machines connected over HIPPI with 2 Power Challenge XLs and an IBM SP2 to run simulations. There was also a guy there who put a RC car frame under an Onyx deskside, taped a...

Re: Display - Valid Formats etc?

Combinations are a specific feature of Infinite Reality graphics, using ircombine(1g). I believe Tiles is also part of that. Other architectures do not have combinations, they have single display formats (.vfc and .vfo files). I believe that X means that the mode is supported to display X (the deskt...

It is not my car. However, from the file name, you can infer it is a 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 with the ram air intake.

It looks like detailing clay. Does it leave a silicone deposit on everything it touches?

The Visualize-FX2/4/6 use a VESA EVC connection. It's not proprietary at all!
