Re: ADAT. And the secret is...

ADAT isn't TOSLINK: unless your converter box has the ADAT (Alesis DAT) logo, it doesn't support it. ADAT is actually a digital audio tape format using SVHS tapes in special Alesis decks. Confusingly, it is also used for two other different things: the 8-ch optical audio interface, and the 9-pin syn...

Re: sgi shutter shades?

I am not sure if my hardware would even be able to play blu ray quality video without stuttering, or at all. I think that a Tezro or other late model SGI can play back video from a Stone array at 2K/1080p (possibly a DM3-VBOB is needed, I don't know). This is not going to be the same codec as the o...

Re: Indigo 2 Hardware Dilemma!!! :(

I'm seeing an awful lot of plastic wrap and a whole lot of no bubble wrap.... I wasn't going to pile on, but maybe this can be helpful as a warning: Also note the USPS freely-supplied mailer used as "padding". This is always an extremely bad sign when people use garbage in lieu of actual ...

Good advice, and that site's a great resource.

Toughbooks also had real serial ports until a few years ago.

I'm not intimately familiar with that tool, but from the messages it appears to be simply scanning for known mitigations and not an actual Proof of Concept attack.

Yes, those are very nice tools. The Wera Kraftform are also tops.

Interesting. I have a DLSD running 10.4.11, do you have a zip of the binary?

Re: Suddenly, a wild Octane appears!

I have an impression of Japan's justice system as both strict and efficient, so I wouldn't like to steal anything. That could be wrong, though. I would particularly not want to appear in court there in the current climate (which resulted from a rather disrespectful YouTube video which was recently r...

Re: Suddenly, a wild Octane appears!

It looks from their geiger counter that the dose rate is as high as 4.5 µS/h near the soil, or about twice the rate of an airline flight.
So they were in basically no danger as long as they didn't eat or drink while they were there.

Re: Intel backdoor: not a bug, a feature (buy a new processor!!!)

As I understood, the kernel patch only applies to the "Meltdown" named attack but not for "Spectre", because for the later one you not need KPT/I. Or does I miss something? Spectre is mostly a problem for applications. Firefox and Chrome announced mitigations last week. It could...

Re: Octane 1.5 + Irix 6.5.26 + Wacom (sharing a great feed back)

intuos mice (pucks) are some of the most useless things ever That's why they are useless, they aren't pucks but weird type of mice. A proper digitizer puck has a crosshair that exactly registers a point of the underlying drawing. Wacom supplied them for all their tablets up until the Intuos, when t...

Re: Intel backdoor: not a bug, a feature (buy a new processor!!!)

However I'm not really able to tell whether spectre or meltdown would not be able to be exploited on the mill architecture, too? I haven't had time to work out whether the Spectre approach would work or not. The side-channel exploited by this family of attacks is that the cache is not fully associa...

Maybe. But at least he can be confident to not be mistaken for a norm.
For me the whole affair is stupid internet drama: it's clear he's trying to get a reaction, and I really don't care what he says or how many sockpuppets he has.
