Re: Too many beers? IBM PS/2 Model 70 MCA

8595 Arrived to in a very poor state.. PSU looks manky, everything looks manky.. BUT.. it did come with some cards that should help the model 80. XGA, the standard IBM SCSI Ctrl, plus another SCSI from mountain View. I have identified and obtained the adf files.. which I just can't get working. This...

Re: SGI O2 HDD caddy (STL file needed for 3D printing)

I'm interested in these 3d printers. Any advice on purchasing one? I looked on ebay, most expensive I could find was £6k, I want to spend no where near that of course.

It would have to go up in the shed, so possibly, networked or I'd have to stick a PC up there, which wouldn't be an awful thing.

Re: Too many beers? IBM PS/2 Model 70 MCA

Update: So I never did get the disk working in the machine, but it is usable as a terminal, since I created a boot disk with Kermit on it... and even though I purchased a new battery, it still needs the reference disk to set the system and the clock, so, something amiss there. AnyHoooo I have now pu...

Re: Discreet Effect

earlier version of Effect (6?) I think you were able to just specify a framestore file that resided on the XFS filesystem. I think the requirement to have a dedicated harddrive as a stoneFS came with Effect 7 (?) Interesting note I think the later version of Effect (8?) was renamed to Spark and it ...

Re: Fuel - on board network connector failed

Recently my house was directly stuck with a lightning strike. (I got a lot of damage, like a partly blown roof, broken windows, etc..) Happily, the power-lines for my computers are very well secured, and no psu blowed away. However, My cable network lines where electrically overloaded, and a lot of...

Discreet Effect

Anyone using this? I have it installed and working well after jumping over a few pitfalls. And, it actually works really well. It's old I know, and the capturing of video in is a bit strange after you are used to just clicking your pen, but it's quite rock solid. I have it at work attached to the in...

Re: Eclectic Light: "We need to document macOS"

An interesting post about the decline in the quality of Apple's documentation - https://eclecticlight.co/2017/08/13/last-week-on-my-mac-we-need-to-document-macos/ (The author is Howard Oakley, who has written some very nice utilities, like the Consolation log browser for macOS Sierra.) Gone are the...

Re: Gone.. tired..

Hey, thanks for the kinds words everyone, I'm not leaving, but feel I should explain, why I threw my dummy out the so called perambulator. One thing I am extremely good at is loosing my rag, no doubt about that, and always feel the need to put right the wrongs. I shouldn't have risen up to Mr Legacy...

Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

I have an INDY up for 70 days in a hot office, I have never heard the fans come on. If that's the case, I'd check to make sure that the fan actually works! FWIW, my experience with Challenge S systems has been similar: rock solid reliability. I had one that worked as a corporate intranet serv...

Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

I would agree on Ian's wisdom and always normally do... BUT.. I still go INDY, but better still, Challenge. What the OT hasn't really explained is the complete details on the environment. The INDY/Challenge are literally solid units, whereas the o2 is modular and as I say, you look at them with a sq...

This the first Silicon Graphics machine that I admin and generally remembering how painful SGI could be to the uninitiated Contradiction? Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

Good point! Btw, some have said 6.5.30 has issues on O2; can't say I've ever noticed this (except for the ChangeSysID prog not working), but someone mentioned it to me the other day. uunix, do you know what issues people are referring to with 6.5.30 on O2? Though of course, one can use earlier vers...
