And you only need 28 of those generators to power the Altix! (not considering the air conditioning) Good that I found a proper one to keep everything running! http://www.generac.com/all-products/generators/business-standby-generators/diesel-generators/200kw-250kw http://gens.lccdn.com/Gene...

Re: For Sale: SGI Altix 4700 Rack (UK)

In fact, it would be interesting for the lab I work in, the problem is that Ebay is officially not the best source to buy this kind of HPC stuff (I think that we are not even allowed to use it) and then we would have to pay the collection of the monster, install it, make space in the datacenter, che...

Re: £10,000 to spare?

It would be a wonderful system for the lab where I am working! We run a lot of protein folding predictions and these require tons of Monte Carlo simulations. A system like that one would cut our running time to one week per simulation (it takes months with the clusters we are using nowadays) :). Too...

Re: PC case recommendations?

I bought the Silverstone TJ-09W many years ago and I think that is still an extremely solid and very nice case:

I will keep if for the years to come, that is for sure :)

Re: My first attempt at using Retr0brite

Congratulations! Retr0brite works really really well is some cases and that computer looks better than new :) I recently used it to restore an old calculator and the difference was also amazing. However, it took me 3 days to restore the "original" condition.

Well, the other day I saw some kids fascinated because one of them had played with something called Megadrive (SEGA Genesis). The others were not believing him ( ·_·). I am just 34...

PC scrap parts for free (London) updated:26/06/13

Hello! I have some old components I saved from a PC that was going to be recycled. They are from 2001 but maybe somebody can find useful among them. So, I have: - A Pentium 4 CPU . It has a Northwood core, 512 KB of L2 and is socket 478 FC-PGA2. It runs at 2,2 Ghz. I also have the CPU cooler for thi...

FS: dual Xeon 3 Ghz Server with 12 Gb RAM.

Hello guys! I am considering to sell my server because I barely use it in the lab anymore. The machine is very dated, but also completely new. I mean, I assembled it some months ago using brand new components that I bought here and there. These are the specs: Mainboard: Intel SE7501HG2 (3 PCI slots;...

I have a question, have you tried the computer with Pymol ? :). I am using the program like crazy in the lab and I guess that it should be really fast running in that girl :).

Re: So my dad dropped the O2...

Funny enough, the plastics of the O2 are kinda delicate, but the internal structure of the computer turns out to be very robust :). If you replace those plastics, it will probably work perfectly fine for ever and ever :D. If you need it, I have the top cover of the computer, it is not perfect, becau...
