Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

OS/400 or iSeries or whatever they call it now needs a license key or it times out after 70 days. I'm not sure about z/OS expiring. But depending on the hardware you'll need license keys to even boot. At least someone was nice enough to make a torrent of V5R2 recently.

Re: Dead Fuel Power Supplies

If you're not comfortable working with electronics I wouldn't attempt this. These supplies are twice the parts density of a normal PC supply. In other words 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound box. There are two main boards with numerous daughter boards standing upright. The top output board had many lea...

Re: Would you like some Java with that JavaStation?

I used to run one of the second gen javastations as a diskless NetBSD client. It booted from a DEC Alpha running NetBSD and remote X worked. I even had Netscape running with the Tru64 compatibility libs.

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

It sounds like you're pretty familiar with Z/OS. Have you watched any of the security talks on YouTube? Very eye opening. I'm not that familiar... there's only so much you can do on the emulator. I haven't watched the talks. Is there anything specific you would recommend? But there's this: https://...

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

RAID levels 1+0 XD I'd love to play with such machine some day before I die... I spent far more time than reasonable fooling around with Hercules once upon a time. The day I own a majority share of any power company I'm getting one. The previous line (Z890) isn't that all that bad power wise. The s...

Re: IBM AS/400 OS/400 questions

Really interesting machines. Hopefully we get more knowledge on them in the hobbyist space. Took me >3 years to get enough parts (once I figure which parts) then get mine up and running. Here's my journey: http://ns4.reboot.net.au/as400/ What kind of PC hardware are you using to connect via twinax?...

Re: IBM AS/400 OS/400 questions

Here is a collection of installation notes for getting the OS on these beasts. There is a 70 day timeout if you don't have a license. #### AS/400 SCSI DASD format: IBM formats those drives with 520 or 522 bytes per sector, depending on whether or not a RAID-5 controller is in use (the extra 2 bytes ...

WTB: HP B132l drive caddy

Does anyone have a spare hard drive caddy for the HP B series workstations? The manual doesn't even list a part number for the caddy. Thanks.

My octane had a similar problem when copying the miniroot over to the swap. It would always fail. I did a format of the hard drive and then it worked fine.

Those old Toshiba XM series drives can read CDR discs but not CDRW. The NetBSD diskless HOWTO explains the netboot process http://www.netbsd.org/docs/network/netb ... o.sun.html

Re: Anyone have HP B132l box?

Just checked, this is an optical sensor. Simply placing a screwdriver blade in the slit will let the machine power on with the cover removed. Remove the screwdriver, and it will power off immediately. Works with a small sheet of dark paper too. That was it :D It powers up just fine. I might just di...
