Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

My Octane would download with netscape BUT it seems as if the file is above eight megabytes the file never ends. It gets to 100% and stays there perpetually. If I stop the download the file disappears. if I copy the file while its sitting there waiting to finish even at 100% it can't ever unzip/unt...

Re: Octane no power?

No you don't need drives or a monitor/keyboard to power on. Testing a power supply is tricky. You would need some load resistors and then figure out which pins jumper it on.

Re: Would you like some Java with that JavaStation?

Yeah you could use the javastation as a serial terminal. Without the network it boots to some JavaOS demo built in the flash. You'll need a boot server and NFS to export the filesystem. I always wondered if it was possible to flash another OS image instead.

Re: Spectre and Meltdown

Someone was telling me even the later SPARC cpus and even some Alphas did speculative execution. Itanium might be safe

For curiosity's sake I just ran the Spectre and Meltdown test script on my 8203-E4A box and here are the results:

Hard drives from storage arrays

Just wanted to post a problem I had trying to get a 146Gb SCA drive working in a Fuel. Again using those cheap 68 to 80 pin adapters require a modification for the drive to work http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?t=16731055 This is an HP Enterprise branded drive made by Fujitsu and the firmwar...

Just wanted to confirm that a Corsair CX600 power supply works fine. Those Seasonic supplies have terrible reviews.

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

OS/400 or iSeries or whatever they call it now needs a license key or it times out after 70 days. I'm not sure about z/OS expiring. But depending on the hardware you'll need license keys to even boot. At least someone was nice enough to make a torrent of V5R2 recently.

Re: Dead Fuel Power Supplies

If you're not comfortable working with electronics I wouldn't attempt this. These supplies are twice the parts density of a normal PC supply. In other words 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound box. There are two main boards with numerous daughter boards standing upright. The top output board had many lea...
