Re: Boot-Mips - one step closer to a 900 MHz sgi O2

You do need a new PCB design, or at least an interposer, because the BGA array is not the same size or layout as the RM5200. I would have made a PCB anyway. The SysAD bus that is used, is well documented. I would put a current FPGA on the PCB, too. A suitable whitepaper is "Benefits of using X...

Re: Polling Card arrived today.. EU Referendum

Any last remaining doubts I had were dispelled after learning of this: ... I'm voting Leave. Ian you are doing something for peace in europe. Most people don't know that the european union with a common currency is a brainchild of the CIA. The CIA started in the 50ies to push the european countris ...

Boot-Mips - one step closer to a 900 MHz sgi O2

Approximately a week ago I discovered the PDF document "Boot-MIPS: Example Boot Code for MIPS Cores" which I needed for developing boot code for an embedded MIPS processor for work. I did not know that such a detailed PDF document about MIPS boot code exists. It has more than 140 pages and...

be LD_LIBRARYN32_PATH ?

I believe that LD_LIBRARYN32_PATH should be used on 32-Bit Irix such as a sgi O2.
My sgi fuel is 64-Bit and therefore LD_LIBRARY_PATH should be used.

Re: houdini 6.5 irix

In particular you need to set HOUDINI_PATH, their environment variable page no longer lists anything IRIX specific but the Linux ones should get you pretty close: http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini15.0/basics/config_env Thank's vishnu. That helped. Houdini is installed and starts without problem. H...

Re: houdini 6.5 irix

i never used the install script. just extract the houdini.tar.gz from inside the extracted download file to a folder of your choice. a friendly warning tho, everything after 5.5 sucks big time on irix. That's what I did and that's why it does not work. I use bash as my shell on the fuel and get the...

Re: houdini 6.5 irix

I even made a good install script ... if someone else want it i can put it here ... if it doesn't disturb the rules ... But, 6.5.51 version crashes on file open and save the 6.1.208 and 6.1.303 versions work great The 5.5.230 version too.... By the way, did someone notice any difference fron 5.5 to...

Re: hamei 's departure

It's cold outside. We're all running our machines as long as we can while the air conditioning is free. ;) Here in Germany we had the warmest November since 1881 (see: http://news.discovery.com/earth/global-warming/australia-to-new-york-where-november-was-toasty-151203.htm ). It is still warmer tha...

Re: salad of math

Well, you could write a new backend for gcc, Open64 or Open Watcom, but the disadvantage is that these compiler all have more than 1 million lines of code. You probably need one year full-time only to understand how the compiler internally works. As mentionend in the paper that you attached, there i...

Re: Linux on IP35 (split from "Irix binary compatibility for Linux on MIPS64? ")

The "5I25 Superport FPGA based PCI Anything I/O card" from Mesa Electronics is a Spartan-6 based PCI-card that is not expensive. It costs 89 US$. See: http://www.mesanet.com/fpgacardinfo.html The manual is here: http://www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/5i25man.pdf I have bought a pair of those...

Re: Linux on IP35 (split from "Irix binary compatibility for Linux on MIPS64? ")

maybe (in the next life) I will find a way to home-build pretty (cheap) PCI fpga dev boards (they are already existing, but too expensive), in this case we could domesticate the SGI_PCI, and It should be nice to add new hw and sw features without all the troubles we have now because the SGI_PCI is ...

Re: Irix binary compatibility for Linux on MIPS64?

It should be possible to implement IRIX binary compatibility for Linux purely from user mode. Yes, it would be slow in execution. But you would have the improved cycle time of not needing to deal with a full kernel build (or even "just" the dance for a loadable module), you can bring a no...

neko-qcad ... edit: it seems to me there are two open sources choices ⋅ gEAD ⋅ KiCad If someone is willing to port from Windows to Irix there is one more choice: FreePCB: http://www.freepcb.com It's source code is at: https://freepcb.googlecode.com/svn
