Re: Softimage Tutorial #1

Really good job!
Easy flow, good capture, great delivery. You obviously know your stuff!

Does Softimage also do skeletal modelling and animation, or was alias/maya of that era the first to combine those with modelling?

Re: [RESOLVED] o2 not able to get online anymore.

So you really have three nameservers on .5 .150 and .105

You can test them like this

nslookup google.com @<ip>

Substiute <ip> for each entry in resolv.conf

Re: o2 not able to get online anymore.

You have some funny entries in your route table and, more critically, no default route.

route add default 192.168.1.1

Re: 3Delight unearthed (Renderman Compliant)

check install script for example of a sysadm having a bad day.

Following instruction in the INSTALL file, shaderdl craps itself and dumps core. Gdb does not help here.

Renderdl at least seems to work, but the cubits.tiff it creates is pretty empty.

Someone else care to take it for a spin.

Re: o2 not able to get online anymore.

There's plenty of debugging to do depending on where you're at with tools. Layer by layer, problem by problem .... For the network problem (you may need to be root or supply full path to these commands) * ifconfig -a * netstat -rn * ping your gateway * is 192.168.1.1 your gateway... * has your machi...

Re: Nicest Tezro I've seen on (EBAY) plus more (not mine)

+1 on the softimage and maya tuts. Youtube is great, but vintage stuff is hard to find, and obviously mostly old professional grade VHS footage of a time ago. Get rid of the mystique and bring it up to date! I may join you, as I have the same rig. And just like blogging instead of languishing on a l...

Re: Let's check your depth buffer precision!

Hi, I tried this out for you, for what it's worth: Zoom < 150 zero artefacts Zoom >150 < 160 start to get green artefacts Zoom beyond 200 lots of green artefacts. I have two machines (O2 w/6.5.30, Indigo2 Max Impact w/6.5.22). They produced pretty close (almost exactly the same) results running Maya...

vfc on Indigo2 Impact

Hi, Has anyone successfully execute vfc on Impact (I know they have on Octane MGRAS). Reason for asking, vfc throws a wobbler from the installed mgras.def, then drops core. IRIS 94% ./modelines-mgras modelines.tmpl < modelines-v2.txt 1600x1000 FrontPorch H/V 104/1, BackPorch H/V 272/31 Sync H/V 168/...

Re: Resurrecting a Jurassic Classic Crimson

There's a time limit to restoration projects. If you haven't managed to turn it on in 10 years, the law states you need to give it away.

That four years left is ticking down....

Re: Building own cable: sourcing an 13w3 male connector

So, if I understand correctly, you opt to purchase the D-sub male on the 10 pins, with three empty holes, then purchase the pins separately? Looking at the dm53740 link, it's like the assembly is made up from both male and female parts included, but I'm guessing only the female would be needed in th...

Building own cable: sourcing an 13w3 male connector

Hi, I'd like to build myself an 13W3 (male) to VGA (female) cable as described in http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16730235&p=7388000&hilit=13w3+cable#p7385806. I'm struggling to find the right 13w3 part in the google+electronics suppliers. I've found all sorts of 13w3 d-su...

Re: Getting the old 3D software on an SGI today?

What sort of problems? UNIX admin problems ? Best! I have been meaning to start a thread about this for ages. I have hard copies from back in the day of Alias version 6, Alias version 7.5.1, and Advanced Visualizer 4.2.1. I really *love* the stuff from the late 80s and 90s that was made using Alias ...
