Re: Solaris 11.4 open beta

Might work on the 2500... it's lightweight enough unlike stock solaris. But it is also mostly untested and doesn't offer a direct install cd for the latest release as nobody is helping test it.

Re: SPARCstation 2 papers scans/PS/PDF ?

It's just a sun4c machine right? unless you are looking for something very specific? This describes the CY7C601 cpu used in the Sparcstation 2 in detail https://archive.org/details/bitsavers_cypressSPA90_18628249 Since it's a v7 chip this also applies http://bitsavers.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/pdf...

You can just get someone on here from Europe to ship it to you by proxy... that's what I did.

Re: SPARCstation 20 power supplies EOL

My SS1000 power supply had 400v on a fairly large capacitor so yeah worth being careful... I wish there were a rebuild guide for it as I have 3 of then broken :/

Re: The Solbourne Solace

Another guy worth mentioning.. Dan Julio http://danjuliodesigns.com/personal/personal/solbourne.html Apparently he was the graphics hardware guy at Solborne at least for their clone cards as he did a large part of the work on the bwtwo etc... It is also worth nothing that all sparcs have the same in...

Re: SPARC stuff found during office clean-out

I wasn't able to find a picture of the ports on a 3GX, but I assure you that Sun and Apple proprietary AUI connectors are completely different. The Sun type has twice as many pins—it also carries audio signals for the sound box. Yes sorry for that, the mac connector is more like a d shell, and the ...

Re: SPARC stuff found during office clean-out

That's a 3GX so 110Mhz and it maxes out at around 64MB ram, 128Mb if you have just the right SIMMs a Sparcbook 3000 has IDE and more ram so would be easier to work with. The 3TX has a TurboSparc 170Mhz and maxes out at 256MB. I have one just like this (the trackpoint breaks easily so get a sun ball ...

Re: WTB Sun Sparcstation ELC, LX, 1000e (US/East)

The 1000e seem to have a problem with cooked caps in thier power supplies also. I have 3 SS1000(E) and only one of them would sort of boot when I got it... going work on one of them this weekend. I drove all night after work one friday and picked them up... at least the drive was scenic! I have a ni...

Re: Giant collection of SGI Hardware Dumpster bound

Thats a real shame... I'm not sure why you went to the length of posting this here. Its rather mean actually... I'd say most everyone I have ran across in the 68k, sun and sgi communities have been very pleasant to deal with. And if there ever was a jerk... report & blockem! Destroying irreplace...

Re: your latest purchase

I didn't "expect" anything... but it would have been nice if I hadn't needed a gender changer on hand which I don't have.

Also for what it is worth... female vs male connectors is neither hear nor there... an SS20 for instance has female connectors as do many "DTE"s.

Re: your latest purchase

Also to stay on topic... most recent acquisition is an Ultra 45 + extra cpu since it only had one, 16Gb ram and a 2Tb SAS drive. It's a shame non of the Linux distros work with the XVR-100 by default on Sparc.. just a black screen quite annoying actually. Oh, I was looking at a couple Ultra 45s. Ha...

6 SM81s (I already have 2 in my SS20) [...] I actually have 3 SS1000s  Wow, that's a lot of really nice vintage Sparc gear. The SM81s aren't exactly common, either. Congratulations on finding 6 more of them. It sounds like you're building up quite a nice system there. Good luck with the proj...

Re: Sun CG12 / GS aka Matrox SG3-1152B graphics accelerator for 3D solid applications

There's a compiler and assembler on the wayback machine for the 34010... gcc 2.5 based so pretty old but also much smaller codebase than modern gcc might be of interest to directly program the TMS340x0 on there. http://web.archive.org/web/20080210052433/http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/gsptools.html That...

Re: What is the latest java JRE/JDK that works on a sparcstation?

The last Debian release to support SPARC v8(32bit only) was 4.0(Etch). Debian 5.0(lenny) and later only supported SPARC v8+(64bit capable) hw. Etch didn't have openjdk, only the sun proprietary jdk 1.5 and only for amd64 and i386. I'm not sure when gentoo removed v8 support but it's been a while. T...

Re: Sun ultra 1 issue

Cool, I had an SGI cable and it never worked with my suns. So getting different adapter is a good bet.

Also, I've had good success with Samsung Syncmaster LCDs, I have 19in and 21in that both work well with my suns.
