Re: mplayer 1.3.0
current IRIX mplayer is somewhat able to play some 720p stuff on my 800mhz R16k. It seems to be totally uniprocessor only. Drops frames if VBR is too high. IIRC the old mplayr doesn't even do h.264, though lots of these newer formats are a total beast on CPU and pretty much require dedicated decoder...

Re: Tezro stuck on Gfx Cfg Err
IO9 board is down. "NO BASEIO BOARD FOUND". Could be a PIC ASIC failure or IO9 blown somehow. Have any other devices died also plugged into that same network cable? I thought the RTC battery may be dead, but it's not possible to know yet. Yet, the Odyssey graphics is detected, so that's go...

Re: Tezro stuck on Gfx Cfg Err
Gfx Cfg Err can happen for a lot of reasons that aren't related to either Graphics, or keyboard/mouse. I've had node board failures that caused Gfx Cfg Err. You need to find a laptop/pc with a serial port, and connect to the CONSOLE connector on the back of the tezro. The baud rate is 38400. You nee...

Re: IBM T221 killed by incompetence - one more for packing stuff properly
I feel your pain, picked up a Sony CinemaView panel (massive)... and the base arrived poking into the lcd panel. the glass looked like a car crash scene. On the upside it became a good parts donor for the second display Packing large, bulky items is a totally different ballgame from what most people...

Re: Introducing D1
Cool! Keep in mind almost all NOS chips from china are not stored in moisture controlled environments and so will popcorn and split the package if you try to reflow them without doing a bakeout. Also, most chips pre-2006 are leaded only, so they won't be able to handle the higher temperatures of lea...

Nice one! I have a quad 800 and dual 800, I use the dual 800 a lot more as it generates significantly less heat and runs quieter. I'd guess the 4x1g to be quite a bit louder even!

Setup asks for license code. Long shot but will purchasing a new license still work?

I believe the connectors are press-fit and you might be able to remove them with enough prying, but it's less likely that you would get a reliable connection even after pressing in new ones, as the ENIG plating will have deformed in each hole.

Are you trying to ping from within the PROM? It's broken and never works even though the network stack functions otherwise

#1 improvement is to go 4 layer. In $CURRENT_YEAR there is very little increased cost over 2 layer and you will reap substantial routing, signal integrity and EMI benefits. Top - signals Inner 1 - Ground Inner 2 - 3.3V Bottom - signals Acid traps are no longer an issue at modern low-cost geometries....

Re: Indy case discolouration
retrobrite does NOT work on cases they are not white/beige colored. Yes, I've tried... It has a mottled bleaching effect and causes white streaks. It is VERY noticeable and far worse than having gross dark plastic. There are basically 2 types of UV damage I've observed: 1. Intrinsic oxygen exposure ...

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running
Basically, Xray doesn't work for high count multilayer boards, espeically ones with flood files or split planes (so, all of them). SGI is notorious for being incredibly lazy with their PCB layout, their approach is just to breakout everything to vias and let the autorouter rip. Which is actually a v...
