Re: Icons for Irix

The Icons themselves but also the case usage, how to make them, and add them to the system for use. Too many desktop items on the Octane have zero graphic and just the standard flat page that stands up.

Thanks for the link.

One of them, one page back links to an empty page.

Re: VPro drivers, no network / CDROM source media

My 8 core win7 PC has two decently loud fans. Such that I've acclimated over the years to hearing it. The SGI machines, and even the Octane, are less than half as loud, if that. So to me they are very quiet. Though I will say that the first drive I had in the o2 was a very clicky noisy thing. The re...

Maya Mental Ray Displacement +Refl Blur

I ran the Octane through some stress tests today. I attempted tesselated displacement renders on the o2 and I think had one or two make it all the way through but most ran out of memory. Need more than 256mb for this kind of test. The Octane has the benefit of being 64bit with 640MB ram at the momen...

Re: Icons for Irix

I need this info right now. So, reviving dead thread.

But, question. Did the link, one page back, at one time have info in it? :?:

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

Yes, changing the xserver line to the true color 24 fixed all the refresh issues in the Firefox browser and sure made all the desktop icons looks very nice. :)

Thanks. :D 8-)

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

OK, Firefox successfully installed. :) Thanks for all the help. I am getting slowly better at recognizing the processes in Irix This firefox is faster but it seems to have some refresh issues. Some text entry spots go black as if they are highlighted but they aren't. Some kind of redraw issue maybe?...

Re: WSI WEATHERProducer and Showfx

Didn't we see one more of these show up on Ebay in the last year or so?

I seem to remember posting on a thread about this same type of weather system o2.

SiliconClassics post here with some regularity, he may have more info for you.

Send an email to Ian at SGI Depot and see if he has some around still. I just ordered one not long ago for my second o2.

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

I borrow from my Linux knowledge which I use at work. BUT, for whatever reason... in 12 years on Linux systems at Digital Domain, Disney, Mirada, etc. I had yet to see a tbz file. I was familiar with tar, tardist, tar.gz. Yet, since I had opened up tar.gz files only to have it tell me the file was c...

Is the TBZ file format a zipped Tar as well? gunzip then tar -xvf?

Re: Blue Moon Render Tools Renderman

Yeah, I know they were commercial. :/ Anyways, I am leaving this here so when I have my Octane on later I can download and test it with BMRT.. https://people.eecs.berkeley.edu/~ug/slide/viewer/ It is called SLIDE ... not sure if it is useful but, it has an IRIX build. I was going through these tutor...

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

What has been tricky is downloading to my o2 then sending the file over to the Octane then starting the whole gunzip... untar process. I kept messing up the files somehow so that when I got to the Tardist file software manager said it was bad or had an unexpected EOF etc etc. My Octane would downloa...

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

Well. I just ran it again after reading your post and it looks like wget is successfully installing now instead of giving me an eof (end of file?) error. Now it is asking to save dist. I set usr/dist/ andvits doing the rqsall % which I guess is the requickstart all like in the software manager. This...

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

Quick question. The Octane terminal is missing some features. If I press tab to complete text or press up arrow to cycle through previous entries they don’t work. Do I need to download a different shell or update a .csh file? Thanks. It’s going much slower because of this. Also I usually add alias l...

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

Ok, the script began working but only up to the install part. I think I may have to tell it to use a specific ftp because it seems like it never begins downloading anything. Then after not downloading it still attempts to extract tardist files. I also wanted to try the full packages Trippynet linked...
