IIRC PC164 use FPM (non-EDO) 72-pin memory while 164SX and 164LX use 168-pin SDRAM.

I wouldn't be surprised if your kernels lack support for V6/V8. Do you have an impact board to try?

Re: your latest purchase

My previous 3 cars were Peugeot and there never was any problems with rust on any of them That's because they are not old enough. Rust was extremely common on french cars built up to the beginning of the 80s. Renault in particular built cars in the middle of the 70s from steel procesed in Italy, wh...

Re: My latest in deep personal stupidity...

Why not boot single user ("stop for maintainance" on powerup, then get a prompt and enter "single"), mount your disks, and cp from the single-user shell?

Re: SPARCBook 1 TADPOLE revival

I think it's a RSH, RLOGIN problem. these services are activated in inetd.conf. Not sure about my hosts??? Restoration of the filesystem is likely done using rcp, thus it requires the server to accept rsh connections as root. You might want to temporarily put a .rhosts file with "+" in th...

Re: SPARCBook 1 TADPOLE revival

If "minifs" contains a miniroot filesystem, which you have written to partition 1, I rate it unlikely that the name of the file within that miniroot filesystem which contains the kernel you are meant to boot is also "minifs". it may be called 'munix' though. have a look at minif...

Re: SPARCBook 1 TADPOLE revival

So, the transfer via the "ethernet restore" on tadpole is successfully ... (transfer DONE !!! god) ... But after... NOTHING! I must see a restore menu/options ... But here ... NOTHING DAMN! Now that you have transferred the recovery image to the swap partition, you need to boot off it. Ha...

Re: SPARCBook 1 TADPOLE revival

Can you run tcpdump on the tftp server machine (tcpdump ether host <ethernet address of the tadpole machine>) to check that a tftp transfer really occurs? If the transfer seems to go well but nothing happens after it seems completed, you might want to make the file unpadded by appending a few random...

Re: Anyone have HP B132l box?

It currently does not power up and this may be the cause. IIRC there is a magnetic (or optical?) sensor preventing the machine from powering up unless the case is correctly closed. If you plan to test it with the cover removed, be sure to put a magnet (or anything opaque?) in the ``security'' label...

Glad to be of help. Plus, I seized the opportunity to dust the machine this morning. This hadn't happened in the last 15 years :?

Re: Anyone have HP B132l box?

Does anyone have a B132l or similar series box? If so would they be kind enough to take a picture of the system board near the front audio jacks? I acquired one that suffered some damage and sheered this one part off. It currently does not power up and this may be the cause. Thanks. I'm terribly so...

SUN (Type 6 below? None USB & Keyboard and Mouse in one) IN --TO-- PS/2 / USB OUT. The SUN keyboard 5/6 is a really neat keyboard, if a little soft and quiet. So meaning I want to plug in the SUN keyboard into any machine accepting PS/2 or USB as keyboard and mouse. Seconded. The comfort of typ...

Re: Old serial keyboard DIP switch (Indigo, 4D, Crimson, Onyx)

Oh, interesting! I don't suppose there is a listing of settings sitting around anywhere? It is just an 4-bit country code, the upper 4 bits being apparently unused. You can get a list in /usr/include/sys/kbd.h: /* keyboard types */ #define KB_TYPE_AMERICAN 0 #define KB_TYPE_GERMAN 1 #define KB_TYPE...

Re: O2 Set SCSI boot drive

Got an O2 here, I'm trying to use a U320 SCSI drive that doesn't have ID jumpers, and the SCSI ID in my second R10k O2 is dksc(0,1,2) but the system wants to boot for some reason from dksc(0,1,0). How do I fix this? I'm not sure you got your first dksc value correct, did you mean dksc(0,2,0)? (the ...
