Re: PowerMac G5 - Chimes, but no display

Blow some hot air (hair dryer, heat gun) through the front for 30-45 seconds, and then turn the machine on.

I had dual 1.8Ghz G5 that exhibited the same behavior, and this worked to get it to start up. I was _very_ skeptical when I heard it, but it worked.

YMMV

Re: Maplins.. GONE a sad day for the UK

I do like Ax-Man, though I haven't been there for ages. I would not have thought of them as an electronics component source, but perhaps the mix has changed since then.

I do miss some of the old places like Endless Electronics, Dexis, etc.

Re: your latest purchase

No, I didn't build it myself. Besides having a lack of faith in my out-of-practice soldering skills, I don't really have a great place in my apartment to do it. Cost a little more money, but worth it. On the topic of the PiDP-8: I've emailed him my interest in reserving a one but never heard back. ...

Re: your latest purchase

I hope "decently equipped" included a SCSI card and drives. The IDE interface on the U10 and U5 were pretty bad.

Sorry - it's the Ultra Enterprise 250, the "little brother" to the Ultra Enterprise 450 (E450) that's at the bottom of the stack in the picture.
