Re: Indy and indigo2 emulation in MESS (WIP)

I have this Indy http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16728856&p=7371124 that sounds like the correct config. How would I make a CHD image though? Note it has Irix 6.2, but by no means a fresh install.

I did find out within the last couple of years about the GIO extender, as I mentioned here. I'd guess at the time either SGI wasn't making them yet, or the Phobos guys didn't know about them.

@GL1zdA it isn't a dummy board, it is a real 8-bit indy NG1.

Here are some pictures. The inside ones I took prior to maxing ram and replacing the drive with a 73GB Savvio (same as my Indy)

Challenge S R5000PC 150MHz, 256MB, Indy 8-bit gfx board

Back in the 90's, this used to be a firewall machine at work. To get two Phobos G100 100BaseT cards to work, we were advised by Phobos to replace the Mezzanine card with an Indy Graphics card. The Graphics card has no output as far as I can tell, and in any case, there is no provision for keyboard, ...

Re: Recommendations for Indy 6.2->6.5.22(?)

I strongly recommend making a full backup of your system before trying the upgrade, in case something goes wrong or you decide to go back to IRIX 6.2. For example, I tend to agree with foetz regarding the performance of IRIX 6.5 on certain Indys. From your hinv, it looks like you have enough RAM (2...

Recommendations for Indy 6.2->6.5.22(?)

I have an Indy hinv here with 6.2 currently installed. Is it possible to do an in-place upgrade to 6.5, and if so, how would I go about it? I have 6.5 installation cd set, and downloaded the 6.5.22 overlay images from Supportfolio, the 5086 patch, and the 6.5 Phobos G100 driver. I'd like to keep wha...

Re: 2.5" sca drive into Indy, Indigo2

So I just bought the same drives and same brackets, and have now discovered that Origin/Octane drive sleds pose a different challenge. Hmm, gonna have to think about this... I think somebody covered those in another thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16724686 Looks like for the octane sled you need mo...

Time for the Indy. This one is pretty straightforward. IMG_1799.jpg IMG_1797.jpg The old drive in the machine: IMG_1786.jpg And the new: IMG_1795.jpg Notes: ⋅ Be careful with plugging the power into the SCA->50 pin adapter, it is tight and wants to flex the adapter board. ⋅ 9GB S...

Re: 2.5" sca drive into Indy, Indigo2

Wow, that Quantum drive survived 'till today? I remember they were dropping like flies in the nineties already. We would get replacements under warranty and they would die *again* before the warranty ran out. Well, I wouldn't say it survived really... When I brought the machine home in the early 20...

2.5" sca drive into Indy, Indigo2

So after reading some other threads here about using smaller 2.5" Savvio drives as replacements for 1/3 or 1/2 height 3.5" drives, I decided to give it a whirl. Settled on using 73G drives for my Indy, Challenge S, and Indigo 2. I ordered up 3 IBM branded Seagate ST973401LC drives from eba...

Re: SGI rebranded Challenge S

We used Challenge S's as firewalls back in the day, and as such they needed 2 of the 10/100 Phobos cards. This was not possible with the scsi mezzanine cards Challenge S's come with, so Phobos advised us to replce the mez with an Indy graphics card so we would have 2 GIO slots (both with DMA I think...

Re: Indy R4600 133MHz, 128MB, 24-bit Newport NG1

I might have a logo, let me check my inventory. It would have been from an Origin 200 front door. Cool, thanks. Why bother forcing a refresh rate faster than 60 Hz? Unless you're looking at a CRT monitor I don't see the point. 60 Hz is just fine feeding a LCD (as long as it syncs properly). Hmmm, I...

Re: Indy R4600 133MHz, 128MB, 24-bit Newport NG1

Thanks for the complements! A couple of questions: Has anyone "restyled" an LCD/flat panel monitor to look more like an SGI Monitor? Granite paint? Anybody have any spare chrome plastic SGI "bug" logos? I had 3 or 4 non-working SGI tube monitors that I recycled a few years ago, a...
