but most of my Suns have dead NVRAM batteries I can't justify shelling $20 to replace at the moment Slightly OT but: I've posted a pictured step-by-step how-to about replacing the dead battery in those Dallas m48t59y-70pc1 NVRAMs on my now ceased blog. Someone dumped the websites in a PDF so you ca...

Re: Show Off Your Home Office Setup & SGI Collection...

After managing to fit a square peg into a round hole, the bulky middle part of my desk didn't seem to fit through the rather tiny opening in the floor of my man-cave, but with some ingenuity aka brute force we finally managed to haul it up there. After two days of heavy lifting in order to shove aro...

Re: Help getting Quake 1 or 2 working

Regarding quake2: Do you use sgiquake2 v3.20? There was a thread here (cf. http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17260 ) mentioning that sgiquake2 v3.20 threw an segfault when using GL mode. Ian answered to the original post, unfortunately there was no final comment if his suggestion t...

Re: Can you disable memory in an Octane from the prom monito

In a nutshell: No. At least as far as I know. The Octane PROM offers only disabling a CPU in dual CPU configuration.

Maybe it's just me but I would think that putting your dual-600 CPU module into your V6 equipped Octane2 would be of far greater utilitarian value... Hmm. :? - I'm sure this topic was discussed here more than once but let me add my personal opinion (apologies for being redundant and for rep...

Re: Octane, R14k Dual 600MHz, 1280MB, EMXI

Thanks a lot! I have a V6 in my Octane2 R12k 400 which I use mostly for some rounds of DOOM, DOOM II and Quake and these graphic issues suck, that's for sure. Looking forward to install these games on the new machine...

Octane, R14k Dual 600MHz, 1280MB, EMXI

After a long time of searching for a decent dual CPU Octane I finally got my hands on a nice Dual R14k Octane. It was originally equipped with an ESI (with 4 TRAMs) and an Octane Digital Video Option Board. Skins are in quite good condition, it has the earlier front panel with the cube logo. Because...

In this mini How-To: http://poetryold.freaknet.org/index.php?title=Microvax-3100-console-hack_asbesto.txt you can find condensed information about the various connectors coming with a MicroVAX 3100 and of course their pinouts. I used this information back in the days to build a serial cable because ...

Gents, hope that it is acceptable to revive this old thread. Apologies that I didn't manage to update my own thread, had a rough time back then. I followed the advice given in your contributions and cancelled the attempt of de-soldering the defective power brick. After more than a year I finally man...
