Re: Steve Jobs dead.

I was reading this article some other day, very different take on why Steve Jobs died and the concept I had about cancer.

Re: Avid TrueVision drivers

Apparently it was all pulled away from a Scitex MicroSphere, like this: http://www.ucm.es/info/multidoc/multidoc/revista/cuad6-7/imagen/blesa/fig2.jpg http://home.intekom.com/mcm/products/sphere/micro.htm as you said, SD professional equipment is meaningless right now, the market moved to HD.

Re: Avid TrueVision drivers

Now that you mentioned it, that pic is pretty poor from ESD stand point. I just never lost an electronic device due ESD discharge, humidity here is around 80%, in the midst of Atlantic Forest, with a river and waterfall nearby. :) I have really bad ESD related habits because of it, when I travel I g...

It will take some time to build a system around these, I have some other projects going on.

Re: PowerMac G5 Quad Core

there are retail releases of 10.4.3 and 10.4.6, the only copy that would not work would be the original release. I would only install Leopard if it is a requirement for some app I wanted to use. Tiger was the last PPC centric OSX and it can run Classic. Leopard is a bloated x86+PPC mess, not that it...

Re: PowerMac G5 Quad Core

You need at least 10.4.2 for the dual core models.

Your apple clone is from the taiwanese unitron, not the brazilian branch. These where independently manufactured. Taiwan unitron used that distinctly blue color in their boards.

What you're looking for is unitron U2000 roms

What I would like to do is the opposite, air cooling on a water-cooled model, specially the quad G5 one.

So far, I haven´t found any project like this.

Re: Indigo2 newcomer - what, why, and why does it do that?

I found 6.5 too slow for a system that supposed to be the fastest workstation. I much rather accept it's limitations and run 5.3 on it where it's fast and there's still a good library of software available online. If you have the 200MHz 1MB model and want to see it fly, install 4.0.5. on it but it's...

Re: Dual USB Ibook logic board GPU fix

I think I overdid the shim thingy on my first try, I stuck the largest coin here, 25 cents, under the gpu. Sure it applied lost of pressure on the pins but also flexed the logic board like crazy. I always wanted the learn the heat gun reflow trick, looks now I'll have to. Maybe if I get it working i...

Dual USB Ibook logic board GPU fix

Anyone ever found a long term solution to this problem? I got one broken for free, placed a shim under the gpu and used it for a couple of days. Now it's failing even with the shim. It's really a design problem, there's no heat spreader for the radeon GPU nor fan. The note is structurally deficient,...

the best single floppy distro I know is kolibri, sometimes I use for a quick hardware test.

should fly even in a 486, it's pure assembly.

Re: Trouble with 486 PC and Windows 9x

run a memtest on the machine
and a full scandisk

if both pass, check for bios upgrades, in last case you'll have to turn off performance features in the bios to gain stability.

Re: Recommendations on OLD G4 AGP processor upgrade

Make sure that your G4 is dual-capable before springing for a 2x upgrade, as Apple had to do a rev of at least one ASIC to get dual working on the first-gen AGP. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13551/uninorthasicchecker for processor upgrades, faster you can go is G4 7448 1.8GHz dual or 2.0GHz sin...

Re: Burning Irix 6.5.30 cd images.

Use a mac or boot up a live version of some linux distro and do the burning from there. hell, I've used puppy linux to do Irix media backup and it worked correctly. you could also try some simpler burning program, complicated ones to too many checks plus whatnot and very few OSes can look at Irix me...
