Re: Sony having a change of heart for PS2 developers

Does PCC even generate MIPS code? I am not sure as of today. If I get O2s this week I will let you know although PS2 is a different computer architecture than SGI. PCC is ported as we speak to ALL architectures supported by NetBSD which means pretty much anything in existence. I think that the MIPS...

Re: firewall: irix or openbsd

Security by obscurity ;) OpenBSD + SGI hardware for firewall is kick ass combination but SUN hardware is also a good choice as Risk architecture are less prone to buffer overflows(not that any is know for OpenBSD but still). I would try to avoid i386 hardware for firewall just because every idiot no...

Re: PC Server / Irix Junk - Name your price

How's OpenBSD's handling of the R10K speculative/ prediction issues? Quote from the OpenBSD web-site regarding Mips64 architecture. Projects & bugs left to fix * Workaround for R10000 CPUs coherency behaviour I am not sure about the status of the PCC port for Mips64 but even if the PCC is porte...

Re: PC Server / Irix Junk - Name your price

An O2 is a great little machine. They work with normal monitors and regular ps2 keyboards and mice. And they are small enough to carry around. I'd take the r10 250 fer sure if openbsd can handle it. I hook mine up to the big projectors in auditoriums which kinda freaks it out sometimes (the project...

Re: PC Server / Irix Junk - Name your price

I have the following that must go: 1 180Mhz O2 with AV Module 1 250Mhz O2 (R10k) with normal Audio Module 6x ECC SDRAM 512MB All this stuff needs to go and will be tossed if no one wants it. I'll accept shipping + a-paltry-sum-for-my-troubles. I am interested in getting an O2 but I would consider t...

Re: Sony having a change of heart for PS2 developers

Is there any different distros for the PS2? Are there any ..... The only two I know of are blackrhino and Sony's. NetBSD runs on PS2. The port is mostly dead because of the broken tool chain (usual gcc crap). As soon as gcc is replaced with pcc (portable c compiler) the port will probably be reinvi...

Re: A good starter machine?

Why would anybody pay premium price to SUN for Wintel hardware is beyond my mind? The same Wintel Blades that SUN sells for $3000 could be easily put up with the parts from new egg for $500. For me SUN=sparc64 the same as SGI=MIPS. Everything else is Wintel hardware with fancy logo but that is just ...

Re: Can someone from Japan _please_ buy and ship this for me?

No help from here. Good thing I found help elsewhere. Thanks. I am sorry you had troubles getting the mother board form Japan. Forgive me for noticing that you are located in South Carolina. I just moved with my family from Tucson, Arizona. Is there are any Unix interest group in South Carolina at ...

Re: A good starter machine?

What is a good starter machine that can run Solaris 10? Also whats the min x86 CPU Speed to install Solaris 9 and 10 on? Are you going to use machine as a server or as a workstation? Netra servers are dirt cheap. A fair praise is about $60 plus shipping on ebay. Excellent machine for a home file se...
