Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

They are counting on the fact that we will be using handsets for the next 10 years, but Microsoft has a secret weapon in the Hololens and if they manage to make a lite version of this system, this could quite easily replace handsets in the future, leaving Apple in the dirt as far as telecommunicati...

Re: Dubious Tezro on ebay (certainly not mine!)

Hmm, I always wish my Octane2 would spontaneously warp into a Tezro. Maybe I should take a lot of pictures of my Octane2 to motivate it to change its plane of existence? ;-)

Re: Keyboard and mouse advice

Is there a way to get a USB keyboard and mouse pair to work with my Indy? If not, what is the best way to get a keyboard and mouse working? I'm using an USB->PS/2 adapter which was bundled with a cheap logitech mouse. It looks like this green thingy here: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2005/11/23/p...

I don't know if a PC graphics subforum is a good idea. Usually this seems to attract people to fight their AMD vs. nVidia flame war.

Re: How frequently you use your SGI (in 2017)?

I guess monthly describes my usage pattern best. The SGIs are my hobby and that's fine. Currently I have no usage scenario in which I would use the SGIs for daily tasks. Besides, I think it's OK to use current hardware for daily tasks and on the job but still enjoy a good classic retro computer. Per...

Looks like they plan to build a less expensive board, too.

Re: Announcement - Fuel ATX PSU adapters available for purchase

Hey, just a quick update ... I received my ATX PSU adapter a few weeks ago. Thanks a lot. It looks pretty good. I had no chance - or should I say no need - to use it for its intended purpose, but it's good to know there's a fallback once the PSU goes to heaven. Shipping was handled by Ian and as eve...

You might want to check the wiki ... just to put the topic at rest. ;)

The R12000 has 600 IO-pins and uses 2.3 volts.
The R14000 has 527 IO-pins and uses 1.5 volts.

Re: Installing Photoshop 3.0.1

Try to search for DPS and Display Postscript on nekochan. I think DPS was removed from later IRIX releases after 6.5.22. I remember I had to install this manually, but I'm not sure whether the required files had been on the Photoshop CD or on an older IRIX CD set.

It just arrived: The final book—no make this three books—about the Space Shuttle. Altogether 1500 pages full of stories, notes, diagrams, and pictures about the most iconic space ship. At least for me, being born in 1975, the Space Shuttle is the synonym for going to space and coming back. If you ar...

I use ACARD SCSI2SATA adapters to run an Samsung EVO 840 SSD in my O2. From time to time, the volume header gets garbled. I don't know if it's the SSD or the adapter. Anyway, I use the following procedure to restore the header, and keep the data on the disk: Error Message dks0d1s8: Drive not ready: ...

Re: Hardware is Cheap, Programmers are Expensive

One aspect I like to add to this discussion: As long as you can solve a performance issue with faster hardware, you make it difficult for a developer to become a better developer. Because you don't become a better developer simply by switching into the Now-I-write-fast-code-instead-of-slow-code-mode...
