Re: Macintosh Performa 475 replacement HDD

Thank you for the informative replies! Guess I'll go HDD hunting over the next few days and if nothing satisfactory comes up I'll order a SCSI2SD.

Macintosh Performa 475 replacement HDD

I recently acquired a beautiful Performa 475 for free and at first the machine seemed to be in perfect working order. I managed to boot into System 7 just fine and played around with a few games the previous owner had installed - when suddenly the HDD (a Quantum ProDrive ELS) made a horrible grindin...

Re: IRIX netinstall via DINA - getting invalid argument error.

Your "bad media" hint was spot on! It seems some files didn't get properly copied from my NAS to the DINA VM, so the poor TFTP server worked as intended but sent some corrupt files over to the Octane.

IRIX netinstall via DINA - getting invalid argument error.

I've been trying to get my Octane to netboot my IRIX installation tools for some time now to no avail and I feel pretty stuck right now. As for the network environment: My main VM machine is running DINA, I've confirmed successful TFTP transfers with other computers in the network. I'm also able to ...

I'm interested in a 600MHz MoBo! How much would shipping to Austria be?

Alright, thanks for the quick reply and that gracious offer. I'll have to check my finances first but I'll send you a PM for that graphics module soon!

Re: [eBay] Onyx4 Quad 800Mhz CPUs, 8G ram, 146g 15K drive, V12 [USA]

mopar, thank you for explaining everything so concisely - these Franken-Tezros look extremely tempting. May I ask you, how much would shipping to Austria be for that system on ebay? I'm aware that it'll be quite a hefty sum but the only SGIs that occasionally pop up in my vicinity are Octanes so I'd...

Re: [eBay] Onyx4 Quad 800Mhz CPUs, 8G ram, 146g 15K drive, V12 [USA]

Tezros won't be coming down in price for as long as there's people trying to hustle them to hobbyists. Just ask mopar, mashek, 3ddoc, and ian. They love raping people with overpriced sgi stuff. And NO ONE here is just going to give their Tezro away to some kid. Do you think vishnu will let you pry ...

Dang, talk about a missed opportunity. I really should check the marketplace here a little more often.

Removing the motherboard from a fuel?

I've finally found someone to help me replace my faulty DS1780 chips so I now need to get the motherboard out of my Fuel. Is there a standard procedure to do so, and how should I go on with the PIMM? Normally I'd just disconnect everything just like on a normal PC but Fuel components are getting so ...

Re: rx4640 loses USB keyboard support when booting OpenVMS

I did some digging online and found out that apparently OpenVMS on I64 isn't able to accept USB input during boot at all. This means that a serial console seems to be the only input method until the X server has been initialized.

Re: Fuel refuses to power up, L1 still working

Ah, what a pity. I don't have any spare parts for the Fuel, guess I'll be on the lookout for a PSU to rule out all possibilities. Maybe I should even start saving up for a Tezro (pretty much my dream machine), if one pops up nearby. Thanks for your help! EDIT: After all, the machine surprisingly cam...
